Video games get raunchy

It's one thing to see Lara Croft's hot-shorts clad posterior while you play "Tomb Raider." It's another thing entirely to see the sagging, slightly lumpy and entirely unclothed buttocks of Larry Lovage streak across your screen.

Nekkid people are coming to a video game near you. Some will be funny. Some will be sexy. And some will be just plain raunchy. At least three games on display at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (better known as E3, the annual trade show of the gaming industry) feature characters frolicking au naturale – with two of those introducing sexual elements.

Where you'd expect to see this, of course, is "Playboy: The Mansion." The first game built around the Playboy license is due out this fall from developer Cyberlore and co-publishers Arush Entertainment and Groove Games. But what might surprise you is "Playboy" is the tamest of the nudity-enhanced games. Sure, polygonal Playmates will strip down to their birthday suit for your character to photograph – and you may even be able to access the actual Playboy photo archives (Cyberlore hasn't yet decided). As far as sexual content goes, though, it's pretty tame.

Hmmm...guess these "games" will have to have controls suited for one hand, eh?

Created for the Super Robot Wars Alpha2.

I think this stuff is better for next gen consoles cus it has to look realistic. But still good.

This is so bafflingly idiotic. We'll end up with an ocean of unplayable **** if this keeps up. I mean, what are they thinking? "Heck, can't think of a story, can't program, can't do ****... But we need the money... Let's put some boobs in the game! It will sell millions!"

Damn it, Toby Gard, look what you've done, you untalented, worthless hack!!!
#3.1 moeburn on 13 May 2004 - 00:46
its not new to have boobs in commercials, movies, magazines, newspapers, whys it a suprise when it comes to games, the only media accessible by the most susceptable to this form of attraction?
#3.2 artibatirae on 13 May 2004 - 01:16
Why do you say that? I don't think that gamers overall are dumber than other people.

It's just that there are so many talented artists and designers working on games that get no attention, yet people cream their pants at the mere mention of Lara's polygonal bust. It's just not fair...
#4.2 Psychoticdemento on 13 May 2004 - 00:13
i totally agree with you.

all I have to say is, SEX SELLS.. like it or not. I'm in the entertainment industry, and trust me, anything with a half naked girl will sell like crazy

You can kill two birds with one stone... if you want bouncing bimbos either naked or scantily-clad, Google for it. If you want real games with storylines and playability, DON'T buy "softcore" games like Playboy: The Mansion. This way game companies will eventually get the hint that people don't want naked chicks in games, they want games they can actually play.

Not that I have anything against naked chicks, mind you, but there's enough of that on the web already. I don't need it on my PS2/XBox too. I'd rather have a game I can play for a long time rather than some pixelated polygon naked woman who's only real thrill is in discovering it for the first time.

then don't buy the games that hurt sensibilities. no on e is making you buy the games

^^ Yeep - you have to totally silly not to think so. Games already have violence, gore, evil, thieving, etc. now why the surprise at the logical next step they gonna go.

sex does not just sell -- people buy it.

#9 YaZoR on 13 May 2004 - 07:45
Doesn't surprise me.

It's only a game.

I just have zero interest in seeing virtual nudity. I mean, it's true that a movie is not ACTUALLY happening in front of you, but they're still real people acting (for now), and it is very easy to find REAL attractive women/men sexy and relate to their situations. Now, with a video game, that's different. One of the reasons people like video games where you kill so much is because it is very entertaining, and at the same time it is in no way *actually* realistic, at least not for a while (and I actually hope it never becomes too realistic, then it won't be fun anymore, just sick). This does the opposite for games that are based on showing a naked human body. Reduction in realism takes away the attraction, and basically renders the content useless except for a few laughs with your buddys.

That said, I don't have anything against nudity in games at all, or in general for that matter, as long as the content is rated accordingly.

^^ this my class is an example of someone who has no clue what he wants.

first he talks of denouncing virtual nudity then applauses it, then denounces it.

we can only hope, he can one day come out and finally fix his problems

now for our next case class...
