Valve have released a new 2D side-scrolling adventure 'inspired' by Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Codename Gordon, which is available to download via Steam, includes dozens of levels for players to trawl through with their tiny pixelated Gordon and features many familiar Half-Life enemies in glorious 2D. The game also includes a fully functional buggy.

Okay, so it's not exactly Half-Life 2 but, hey, it's better than nothing. Take a look at the screenshots and see what's in store.

That looks pretty cool. Reminds me of the Commander Keen shareware game days.

Doubt i'll play it but can't they spend their time finishing HL2 rather than wasting time producing stuff like this!

HL2D is not a Valve product...
Check out their site: Codename Gordon

Then the first line of the article needs to be changed.

Valve DID release it, it doesn't say they created it.

Get your facts straight.

Chill out. I read the article and nowhere did it mention who created this. If something says someone released something, that would sound to me like they created it unless the article says different.

I first heard about this last year on Slashdot - it was supposed to be released 8 months ago but then they decided to do this Steam thing. Not really too impressed - there's better on NewGrounds and they don't need you to have Steam. BTW the game isn't actually by Valve it was made by another company then published through Steam by Valve.

If you like this sorta thing though there's a really good new project based on Halo, they've already released a cool 6 level beta and is definitely worth a look:
Halo: Blood Covenant.

The game is suprisingly laggy. Why couldn't they make their own engine instead of using flash?
#9.1 NeoTrunks on 18 May 2004 - 20:48
At least you get it to run. I get a blank flash window.
#9.2 Surr3al on 18 May 2004 - 21:10
It requires at least a 1600 mhz computer, so if you don't have that it's time to upgrade.
#10 chacho on 18 May 2004 - 21:21
holy crap, when i saw the headline i was like...WHY ISNT THIS ON THE MAIN PAGE?!

then i realized its this thing...

oh well...more waiting
