No one has seemingly been able to confirm anything, but rumors abound that ION Storm Austin has had a major upheaval and many people have been laid off. THe rumors also say that Warren Spector himself has left the company. Here's what is rumored to be happening at this time:
  • Layoffs at Ion Storm (20-25 people)
  • Massive changes of focus to console development.
  • Many of the best people people were let go because they were either suspected of leaving shortly or wouldn't fit into the new structure.
  • Warren has left.
  • Probably will change the company name.

Again, nothing is confirmed as of this moment, but it does seem likely something major has happened with ION Storm Austin. If it's true, another great development studio has been lost.

Warren Specter still remains at Ion Storm as he's currently overseeing the development of the new Tomb Raider game which he can't back out of until the development hits beta.

The Layoffs consists of 20 to 30 people who were hired to accelerate the beta stages of Thief 3 for a smooth release. Theif 3 staff are now down to a good 10 to 15 people for ongoing support. The Deus Ex:Invisible War Dev team was let go as there were no new projects for them.

I must state Ion Storm still has 3 projects in the works that are not announced yet.

I'm currently QA Testing on these 3 Projects as well. These 3 projects are not funded by Eidos as Ion Storm is self funding these projects.

I've heard Warren Specter talk about a potential remake of Anachronox and possibly a Daikatana remake with the storyline rewritten from scratch and using a brand new engine technology.

Deus Ex Side Scrollers are always mentioned for possible development on the GBA.

Warren Specter has also stated that he may be forced to self fund Ion Storm sometime down the road.

Warren mentions in QA meetings that John Romero ruined Ion Storms Reputation when Diakatana was released in a very buggy state and dull technology. He claims this hurt Deus Ex's sales to a certain extent. Anachronox was good and had good ideas, but the gameplay was flawed.

The new Deus Ex kinda sucked in my humble opinion...

Personally I've never been a huge fan of Ion Storm, but they seem to get alot of press attention.

How can you guys blame the consoles? It's obviously poor management from within.
