What can only be described as bad news for Half-Life fans a new release date rumor emerges. Reports from Half Life Radio reports that Valve is soon going to ship HL2 to publisher Vivendi, but it also the game won't leave Vivendi until the fall. Then again the report may not be true. We'll just have to wait and see what Valve and Vivendi announce.

The Half-Life 2 release date saga continued to rumble on this weekend, with an Autumn release date now mooted as the title's likely launch window despite development on the hugely-anticpated game reportedly being completed in a matter of a few weeks .

Reports emanating from Half Life Radio in the US state that Valve will deliver the game to publisher Vivendi in the next few weeks, in line with the Seattle-based developer's recent promises that work on the project would be finished this summer. In fact, Valve's marketing director Doug Lombardi restated last week that the game was still "on target" for the summer.

However, the report also states that the game won't be launched by Vivendi until "Fall", which to us suggests a late September release - usually in order to meet that quarter's financials. If the report is true - and until Vivendi or Valve officially announces it we can't be sure - then this represents yet another blow to the long-suffering fans who have faced delay after delay.

This sort of thing is not uncommon among Internet and computer users. Microsoft vs Apple, Intel vs AMD. It seems us geeks just can’t help ourselves.

We must remember that both offer “free” services and unbelievable amounts of storage. So what’s at the centre of this storm and why would users of a email service turn to this action? I would hazard a guess “commercialisation”. GMail members are selling & trading invites to what is a free service.

This spawned a new craze, were everyone wants the best email address they can buy, usually their first name, popular companies and even pop stars names. True hysteria built on hype has caused email accounts to become valuable and any rival offering a better service and this is a threat to them.

So when your saving for your pension don’t forget to add a few choice GMail accounts to go along with those 1000’s of catchy domain names your sitting on too…

Update: well it seems that the GMail group won, You’ve Got Post accounts now have a 20mb limit, returning them to the hords of companies offering a similer service. GMail it seams, has kept its crown for now...

more like a year.. and it's still not released, so expect it to go back yet again, and again, and again. delaying is valve's speciality

agreed. dont trust anything said by hlradio to have any truth to it. the majority of the time they are full of crap and lies.

however, its hard to say when the game will be released, as its hard to believe that the game will be out by the end of summer. we can always hope though.

You know what, i think that valve right now is on the verge of just pissing everyone off and ruining their name . I can remember how Neowin had the poll that said "2003 belongs to" . I too am starting to feel its going to pushed to winter for an xmas release.

It pisses me off, farcry however kicks ass.
#16 tiddlie on 14 Jun 2004 - 22:39
Thing is with all the delays isn't it going to look dated? I mean everyone knows the speed of pc development, and if the game was made to be released a year ago then ye. anyway - you can see what im getting at.

I am honestly beginning to care less about the Half-Life 2 release. I have a feeling they're going to sell around Christmas so that they can make some more sales off it.
#18.1 donachello on 15 Jun 2004 - 14:30
Well just think we have Stalker to keep us going... until then...

Well Ok..
As long as the game will Rox my Sox!!!! I don't mind waiting. It's better then forcing a realease like other comanies, who end up "Milking the market" *ugh* EA *ugh*

Valve (vivendi) are wise in not forcing out a game. This practice has proven to work at Blizzard aswell (also vivendi).

Hmm, late September huh, like ohhh, maybe, September 30th? Last year, when they said September 30th, did they specify a year? I think they actually meant this year, not 2003. Which means they never lied in the first place! You should all be ashamed for flaming them so much!
