North Korea isn't to happy about how it's being portrayed in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2. North Korea is accusing Americans of hating them. With pretty bold statements like "[Americans] have shown everyone their hatred for us. This may be just a game to them now, but a war will not be a game for them later. In war, they will only face miserable defeat and gruesome deaths."

Government newspaper lashes back at American "propaganda;" no word on whether Kim Jong Il enjoyed the first game.

Red Storm's upcoming mutliplatform tactical shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 has North Korea up in arms, according to the American military newspaper Stars and Stripes. Apparently, the North Korean government is miffed about the story line and setting of the game, wherein a North Korean general diverts food to the military, eventually taking power of the country and invading China. Players join the elite Ghost Recon force as they intervene on the behalf of China to repel the attack.

Scenes from videos of the game, debuted at this year's E3, caught North Korea's attention. “Through propaganda, entertainment and movies,” read a recent column in the Tongil Newspaper, "[Americans] have shown everyone their hatred for us. This may be just a game to them now, but a war will not be a game for them later. In war, they will only face miserable defeat and gruesome deaths.”

i can't help but smile at that, along with:
[QUOTE]"[Americans] have shown everyone their hatred for us."[/QUOTE]

both of these seem to exagerate the situation slightly. You may as well take the original Ghost Recon, and say the americans don't like georgian rebels. Also, what about Tom Clancy's books? Do they mean that the Americans hate the Russians and others as well?

I admit, this is true. There is a difference between a game and a real war. But to me this comment seems to suggest that 1)They are expecting war with the Americans soon, and 2)They are expecting to win.
Not to say that the Koreans wouldn't stand a chance. I'm just pointing out that no one can be certain about the results of a war.

If I were the Korean Government, I would just sit back and ignore it. The storyline talks about a "North Korean General" who "diverts food to the military, eventually taking power of the country and invading China." Realistically, it could possibly happen, but I wouldn't say that it places a shadow on the Koreans or their military. It is merely a scenario that someone thought could happen. The truth is, it could be any country, not just Korea. However, the Ghosts have been in to Russia, Africa, and Cuba (or was it colombia?). The gamers are looking for a new location, somewhere with new textures and enviroments. Korea was just one of the options that solved all the problems.

Well, I've said my bit now, and for it I am a little happier

Yay for american propagana. But in all reality, we did this stuff to russia back in the day with Red Alert and sequels. We also attacked the middle east with C&C generals. Oh, and just about every country that isn't a democracy we seem to attack. I thought North Korea would have caught on by now and begin to accept it.
