Ubi Soft Entertainment sends along the eagerly anticipated new patch for Far Cry, bringing the tropical island first-person shooter by Crytek Studios to version 1.2. This release adds quicksave support, increases run speeds and sprint lengths, fixes some Punkbuster problems, addresses a large number of gameplay issues, applies various optimizations and weapon tweaks, and squashes more bugs.

What's New:
  • Fixed a number of serious issues with headshot detection
  • Ported a number of sensitive routines into non SDK sources
  • Fixed some issues with ladder animations appearing odd to other players
  • Added quicksave support for single player (still in process)
  • Fixed bug where players name tag didn’t show up
  • Fixed bug where console would accept letters as variable states
  • Fixed a number of ladder related issues

Updates

According to the article at MSNBC, the new iPod will also contain the following features:

  • Longer battery life (50%) through more efficient method of power conservation.
  • Increased averaged play time, now at 12 hours.
  • Multiple On-The-Go playlist support
  • Ability to delete songs off the playlist
  • Users will now be given a choice to play their tunes at 25% slower or faster.
  • Lower price: $399 for 40GB, and $299 for 20GB. The 15 GB model has been discontinued.

Personally, I am hoping that some of these new features will be made available to existing users through firmware updates. I guess we will just have wait and see...

how is a no-cd crack warez? I honestly hate putting in the cd everytime I have to play games, such an annoyance. *Waits for the no-cd crack*
    #16.3 smapdi on 22 Jul 2004 - 00:07
no-cd crack for version 1.0/1.1 works for 1.2 also...

I installed this patch, and now I don't have no sound effect anymore in Far Cry, tried everything (all combinations of options in far cry, reinstall soundcard, tried other drivers, tried playing with HW acceleration of DX ...) nothing works.

Guess I'll deinstall Far Cry, and start over with 1.1 ... bah.

also, I don't understand why everybody is so ... excited about this patch ... Biggest advantage is SM3, but for that you need a 6800 and DX9.0c ... There are not so many ppl who have these 2 things ...
    #17.1 ishtar on 22 Jul 2004 - 10:21
I had the same thing after installing the benchmark utility, had to reinstall game

not that much faster is still faster, and i have a 9600xt which had heeps of bugs apparently so hopefully they will make it faster for me

Did they fix the problem they had with the killing of the ATi rendition? I read somewhere that 1.2 ****** Radeon cards over something shocking.

    i have no sound either

I installed the patch and the game looks the same to me on my 6800 Ultra. I no difference in graphics even with all the settings maxed out. No problems with sound nor with the no-cd crack.
    #22.1 kl33per on 22 Jul 2004 - 12:44
IIRC, the new shader path makes the game run faster 6800 cards (due to the ability to do looping in PS 3.0) but doesn't make the graphics any better.
    #23 offroadaaron on 22 Jul 2004 - 07:03
this patch works fine for me, except i cant see any changes in performance. i guess what can u expect for a 64mb patch when the game is like 4gb they couldnt have done that much really
    #24 Yakkob on 22 Jul 2004 - 08:16
Some points from reading the ubi forums:

    a. You WILL lose your save games if you install over the 1.1 patch, and you might get other oddities like loss of sound etc.
    b. The above can be rectified by reinstalling (which will uninstall the patches 1.1 & 1.2). You can then reinstall 1.2 and save yourself a reinstall.
    c. If the above fails then reinstall bypassing the 1.1 patch.

Oh. and the best thing about this patch is the multiplayer fixes..specifically the vegetation bug.

    HTH
    (2 replies) #25 pHaez on 22 Jul 2004 - 09:46
The vegetation bug is still there, just not the same way. There are simple ways to remove recoil, increase each weapon's bullet distance, remove fog, get binoculars and flashlight on each spawn, and put the sniper scope on every weapon, their game design is flawed, and there isn't much they can do about it, short of recoding their engine.
    #25.1 Yakkob on 22 Jul 2004 - 09:58
    Is it really that bad?

Gah...I used to be such an avid online multiplayer back in the days of tfc etc, and now I just stay away more and more because of cheats.

    I'm feckin gutted!
    #25.2 pHaez on 22 Jul 2004 - 12:15
Sadly it is that bad. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, it is one of the few I have actually purchased. But it's blatently obvious that the game was originally a demo for e3, as it was designed without any intentions of preventing cheats, and full intentions of easily modifying it to do what you want. Luckily, at this point, unless you have some basic coding knowledge, or know somebody that does, you wont be able to cheat. In 1.0-1.1, it was as easy as starting the game in devmode and executing a couple of commands to cheat. I have to commend them for atleast stopping that.
