Visual Concepts confirms its upcoming hockey game will also bear ESPN NFL 2K5's low price point.

Over a week after online retailers began listing it for $19.99, ESPN NHL 2K5 has been officially discounted. Making the announcement under the ESPN video games brand, Sega confirmed the next installment in its hockey series would be available for the "incredible price" when it ships out August 31. The game is rated "E" for everyone and will be available for the Xbox and PlayStation 2.

Developed by Kush Games for Visual Concepts, ESPN NHL 2K5 re-creates the wild world of professional hockey. This year, the game sports several new features, including a party mode that contains dozens of multiplayer minigames and challenges; a completely redesigned fighting engine that encourages aggressive defensive tactics; and enhanced ESPN commentary featuring Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. The game will also feature online tournaments as well an online component for party mode (in case your guests don't show up). GameSpot got some ice time with ESPN NFL 2K5, as outlined in our latest preview.

Besides exposing plans for a Sudeki sequel, the ad also appeared to reveal two other new games: The Final Option and Dragon Wars. No further information was revealed for those titles, although the listing also mentions Codename Avalon, Climax's previously announced mystery project for next-generation consoles.

Given Sudeki's lackluster critical reception, many industry watchers wondered if Climax will stick with its plans to a sequel. Reps for Climax did not respond to inquiries as of press time.

Awesome, I'll definitely pick it up. I loved last year's version.

Hockey and soccer are the funest sports games to play. I despise soccer, but it is a fun video game. Good to see Clement and Thorne on commentary, my favorite announcers in the playoffs. Now just get Melrose in between periods.

If it's up the same level of quality that ESPN NFL 2K5 is (and it should be since it's being developed by the same people) then it very well could be better than EA NHL 2005.

I agree, NFL 2k5 is outstanding. My online sporting needs will be easily fulfilled with ESPN's lineup it looks. Tack on the cheap price and you have an awesome deal!

I could be wrong, but you may have to pay individual charges to EA for online competition. Am I wrong on this?

Depends on the system.

It's your typical Sega-style gameplay. Figure it out.

this is another brilliant move on ESPN's part.. and i think this is the start of a great trend for video games.. im thinking this could potentially have the same effect on prices that Gmail had on free Email storage
