Over the past several hours, unidentified objects have been spotted streaking across the Auraxis sky. The origin of these objects is unknown, but they appear to be organic. The surface of the planet Auraxis has also experienced very abnormal seismic activity. A possible explanation could be the magnetic fields between the heavenly objects and the core of Auraxis, but we can't be sure yet.

With the frequency and velocity of the objects increasing, scientists are now predicting a level 4 impact over the next several hours, with possible greater impacts over the next three days. One theory suggests that if enough of the objects make impact with the planet, the magnetic fields of the core could reverse causing drastic changes to Auraxis as we know it. Empire Representatives will maintain a stream of communication over the course of these phenomena through the PlanetSide Empire Forums.

Planetside is a PC-based massively multiplayer title from Sony Online Entertainment. More news can be found at http://planetside.station.sony.com/

The event will climax on Thursday, 23rd September, when Sony's guests and competitions winners will be given VIP access to the Alton Towers Park, including priority access to rides and exclusive access to gaming areas.

They will also be able to enjoy musical performances from various artists - including breakthrough urban acts, established chart artists and upcoming rock bands - as they zoom over sets installed in amidst the park's various spiralling attractions.

Sony is also planning a multi-artist finale within the Alton Towers' castle walls, to be followed by an after-show party in the Stateroom adjacent to the Alton Towers Hotel, with overnight accommodation and a chance for guests and competition winners to mingle with the artists.

The finale performance will also form the basis for a 90-minute televised trip around the PlayStation-tinted Alton Towers, something that Alton Towers' marketing manager Mike Lorimer believes will prove very popular.

"We are very excited to be hosting this event. Not only will it showcase our fantastic rides and attractions to a key audience on TV, but it will also allow every one of our guests access to some fabulous added experiences in the Sony PlayStation areas," he said.

SCE UK's marketing director Alan Duncan, meanwhile, said the new look of the event is important to the development of the PlayStation brand.

"The PlayStation Experience at Alton Towers reflects both our commitment to the evolution of sampling events and to creating original broadcast content which communicates the values of PlayStation to new and existing audiences," he said on Friday.

PlanetSide sucks anyway. UT2004 eats it, and it's not even an MMOFPS!

I remember randomly trying out for the BETA waaay back when. It was tons of fun. I played untill FFXI came out. PS had potental to be a great game. It had a few, but MAJOR, problems. The bugs where completely out of control and were being ignored. The framerate sucked horribly, even on top end machines. It wasn't that well ballanced, but that's not too easy to do.

i can agree with some of those points.. i trialed it shortly after it went live, and i kinda liked it, but wasn't convinced it was worth the money. I trialed it again around november / december 2003, after the server consolidation and it was pretty bad for framerate in big battles, however those battles were large, comprising of hundreds if not 1000's of players in and around any one base... let alone the other bases and continents. large battles were also frequent - however i didn't like playing at 12fps, so didn't sign up.

i did sign up last month tho, after no hardware upgrade, and all the speed issues had been resolved, and it ran great, pretty much all the time, even in large battles.

as for the comment about ut2k4, the onslaught mode is just a watered-down copy of the stuff that's in tribes / planetside, so if you like a watered down generic gaming experience the stick with that, if you like a more indepth, massively multiplayer, and persistent gaming universe then you should stick with planetside. Saying it eats it is kinda stupid really, it's like comparing mario to counterstrike... uhm.. maybe.

Its a great game, but it gets boring after a while and its not worth the money.
But he's right it's raining astroids, sandstorms are wielding, earthquakes every 10 minutes. And on August 16, at night, something will occur that will destroy an entire continent. Its hell out there.
