The launch date for the Xbox version of id Software's Doom 3 is "still up in the air," according to company CEO Todd Hollenshead, with a strong possibility that technical and gameplay issues could hold the title back to 2005. Speaking to the press at QuakeCon last week, Hollenshead said that while a 2004 release for the SKU "could happen," "that's not our focus right now - our focus is on the gameplay."
"Doom 3 is a game that on the PC is very finely tuned," he explained. "There was a lot of play balancing. The stuff that was supposed to be tense resulted in a lot of tension for players. The stuff that was supposed to be scary makes people crap their pants. We want the Xbox version to be just as good." The Xbox version of the game is being created by Vicarious Visions under the watchful eye of id Software, and like the PC version, will be published by Activision - who are reportedly still pushing for a 2004 launch.

Such moves are widely seen as an effort by SCEE to complement its already impressive internal development capacity by cultivating a Nintendo-esque network of "second party" studios - a move which not only guarantees continued support for existing platforms, but also gives the company an assurance of high quality early titles for its future systems.
"We've enjoyed an unparalleled working relationship with Evolution Studios over the past 4 years," according to SCEE's executive vice president for development, Phil Harrison, "and the quality of their work on the WRC franchise can be measured by the millions of loyal fans who love the series. This strategic alliance allows our organisations to work even more closely together as we prepare for the combined challenges of new formats and expanded game design horizons."
Evolution Studios was founded in 1999 by Digital Image Design founder Martin Kenwright (who is now managing director of the company) and Psygnosis founder Ian Hetherington, and has developed three successful titles in the World Rally Championship series for SCEE. Last year, the firm revealed plans to expand the studio through the establishment of satellite studios under the "Devolution" programme; BigBig Studios was the first studio to come under the auspices of this plan.

To [C-F] Lee: Yep, I can't wait either. This is going to be very exciting.
I hope they delay it to make the textures and fps as high as possible
I want perfection
anyways pc version will looks better than console vesion anyways
for one thing graphics aren't everything, and the main point is not everybody can afford the $2000 game console. the xbox version is a way for more people to play it, who would otherwise not be able to play it.
The game won't look anywhere near as good on an Xbox. But please, go ahead and keep convincing yourself otherwise. If the game could have been optimized for P-3 hardware and 64 megs of memory to look/feel/run like a P4-3+ ghz and a a gig of memory on an X800, they would have put those optimizations into the PC version. You're going to get the lowest end experience in Doom 3 on the Xbox, but if that is better than nothing for you, then it doesn't matter what anyone else says.
But don't sit here and insult our intelligence by stating something as silly as your last post in this thread.

What I said was: it will run just as good on an XBox as on a PC, meaning you don't have to worry about slowdowns and such. Image quality is a different beast entirely. Nobody buys an XBox for image quality, that's stupid. By throwing away AA and AF and running @ 640x480 (which is what the XBox does) you WILL get a nice speed-up while still using the same settings from the game.
Get your facts straight before trolling.
Looks terible
