A new report from International Data Group (IDG) Entertainment surveys top game industry CEOs for a preview of where the industry is headed as 2004 reaches a close and we prepare for 2005 and beyond. The primary theme, according to the report, is that the video game market should see strong performance through the final quarter of 2004 if Microsoft and Sony cut hardware prices, as many analysts hope.

Of course, as any gaming enthusiast knows, the final part of this year is a powerhouse in terms of software. Packed right into the remaining months of 2004 are games like Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Fable, DOOM 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, EA's latest sports offerings, and The Sims 2. And that's just to name a few. Executives surveyed expect, unsurprisingly, that the industry will see healthy numbers with such a strong software line-up.

doubt it will make a big difference what makes peole buy the consoles is the new games coming out i.e. the new GTA for ps2 or Halo 2 for Xbox or resident evil 4 for gamecube

not really, everyone who wants one already has one. i think that by cutting prices theyll get a lot of poeple who want multiple consoles just dotn want to shell out huge amounts of cash for another system. so by cutting prices will in fact boost them a lot. because who ever buys anew system without one or two games seeing as most base consoles dont even include a freggin game anymore.

i want Xbox to cut so i can get it with Xbox Live and halo 2!!

Same here, though not quite in those same words . I'm holding off on buying an xbox until Halo 2 comes out. I haven't bought an xbox for the original Halo because I have Halo PC and because most of my friends already have one. If the original Halo worked with xbox Live, though, that'd be a different story.

True, XBConnect works pretty well, but it doesn't have voice chat and people who use it love taking advantage of map exploits... Plus, people who use XBConnect are a little tougher to beat than people who use XB Live

They need new games first. Ones that have lasting value.

Console gaming needs a " jump-start"?
#5 ArtOf_War on 18 Aug 2004 - 02:48
If the XBox were at 99 USD with 2 controllers, I'd already have one

Instead of cutting prices they need to package the system better. For $150 you should be able to get a PS2, network adapter, 2 controllers, 2 memory cards and at least one game. Same deal for XBOX, only throw in a year of XBOX Live instead of the memory cards.

Consoles need quality games ... and there aren't enough of them ! I can name on one hand the new games coming out that I need.

Any price cut would jump start anything.
