Quake 4 details leaked

The first details of Raven Software's plans for Quake 4 have snuck out this afternoon after subscribers to PC Zone in the UK and the American edition of PC Gamer received the latest issues of the magazine and scanned in screenshots and preview information.

The scanned screenshots have already appeared in various locations - most notably here - but arguably the details lifted from the preview text are more exciting than visuals that, a very high level of visual quality notwithstanding, might as well be interchangeable with stills of id Software's Doom III. Hardly surprising, of course, given that id's coveted Doom III engine powers the Raven Software-developed Quake 4.

Gameplay, which was owned and operated by Andy Mee and Lisa Burke, who will continue to helm the company following the acquisition, has had a chequered history.
The firm went through a period of massive expansion during the dot.com boom, fuelled by a major stock market flotation. That expansion saw the firm buying up BT's Wireplay online gaming service and launching its own TV show on Sky One, as well as planning to launch itself as a game publisher.

However, the technology crash hit Gameplay.com (as then was) hard, and eventually the profitable boxed games business was bought out by its management as the remainder of the company collapsed.

I used to think it was funny to add 1's to the line of exclamation points, but actually writing out 'one'??

That's friggin' hilarious!

No, wait. It's not.

The 1s after a string of exclamation marks was originally a typing error. It arose when you released the shift key before the 1 key. Emulating a typing error on purpose and even going so far as to attempt to make it !33t by typing the word "one" is an indicator of ultra low intelligence if you ask me.

screens were removed

Id Software were very busy on Doom 3 abvious, so Raven Software got the project. I doubt Raven Software will ruin the game, they are very talented.
#7.2 nic on 15 Sep 2004 - 03:39
Raven Software is good, and they have a long track with id powered engines. I think my favorite game from them is still the original Hexen, that game was awesome. I need to find and play that again!

#8.3 DjmUK on 15 Sep 2004 - 12:33
Yeah, if someone actually puts their words together like that, then that person is "so much dumb"...damn amatuer - I hate all this "internet language", we can't get a proper sentence in correct English these days!

Just misread the topic as "Quake4 Retail Leaked".
#9.1 jerry on 15 Sep 2004 - 03:09
Far fetched wishful thinking Actually the title is somewhat misleading. "leak" is not the right word here.

beyond impressed with Doom3, can't believe HL2 could ever beat it in terms of graphical splendor and sheer coding prowess, those guy's at ID must work miracles
#17 dunkster on 15 Sep 2004 - 10:04
damn, why hasnt my PC Zone arrived yet, i want to see this.
#18 GHL on 15 Sep 2004 - 11:32
I rather like this, i would have liked it more if i didnt play doom3, because i lost interest in that fast, in my opinion half life 2's possibilities are alot more to get hyped about, hl2 might not live up to its expectations, BUT the engine of it is gonna own everything to date, after that unreal3 will own all.
so really i am not to bothered atm, i think 2005 will have the games engines stabalized again and we will see no more big wars between fanboys.
