The first details of Raven Software's plans for Quake 4 have snuck out this afternoon after subscribers to PC Zone in the UK and the American edition of PC Gamer received the latest issues of the magazine and scanned in screenshots and preview information.
The scanned screenshots have already appeared in various locations - most notably here - but arguably the details lifted from the preview text are more exciting than visuals that, a very high level of visual quality notwithstanding, might as well be interchangeable with stills of id Software's Doom III. Hardly surprising, of course, given that id's coveted Doom III engine powers the Raven Software-developed Quake 4.

Gameplay, which was owned and operated by Andy Mee and Lisa Burke, who will continue to helm the company following the acquisition, has had a chequered history.
The firm went through a period of massive expansion during the dot.com boom, fuelled by a major stock market flotation. That expansion saw the firm buying up BT's Wireplay online gaming service and launching its own TV show on Sky One, as well as planning to launch itself as a game publisher.
However, the technology crash hit Gameplay.com (as then was) hard, and eventually the profitable boxed games business was bought out by its management as the remainder of the company collapsed.

That's friggin' hilarious!
No, wait. It's not.
