Nintendo's new handheld game player will cost $200 and arrive in stores in plenty of time for Christmas, according to a Wal-Mart Web page that appears to spill the beans.

Walmart.com recently posted a preorder page for the Nintendo DS, the advanced handheld game player the Japanese game giant announced earlier this year. Though Nintendo has yet to reveal pricing or an on-sale date for the device, Wal-Mart says it will cost $199.82 and be in the hot little hands of gamers around Nov. 30.

The said it was going to be MSRP ~170, and now 200.

MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

The item can be sold for more (or less) than the MSRP...

yep, especially considering they priced the psp at like $500 or something

Since you work for Sony right? Please enlighten us on the 2 hour battery life as well.

I just love how fanboy rumours can become fact without any thought or proof.

I always thought that the 2 hours (10h with music) was a number told by Sony's people...

emmm nope they hinted at a 250 price for the psp. nowhere near 500. id be well moer willing to pay the 250 for a psp then 200 for the ninteno's toy, since psp also will have umd dvd movies as well available.

So you're willing to pay $15 a pop to watch movies on a 4 inch screen? Not to mention video playback is also possible on DS (look at the GBA Video series, and DS carts would easily hold 2 hours + of video)

How is DS any more of a toy, they both play GAMES. Also the DS marketing will be targeting the 18-25 year old bracket, the same one Sony pledges to target - bringing your toy argument into perspective here...

First of all they called it a Game Boy in the title of the article...

They also base their entire story on Wal-Mart's preorder page. EB Games and Gamestop also have preorder pages for it, and they also have the $200 price. However both clearly state it's a temporary price, websites always use a high worst-case price for these things so that if they're wrong they never have to ask you to pay more money than you thought you would.

Common sense would say Nintendo didn't drop the price on the GBA SP just so that they could release DS for $120 more. Mark my words, DS will be $150 or less.

Conclusion: CNET jumped the jumped the gun and posted a story about a whole lot of nothing.

Um, the DS is not the next Gameboy. They are different product lines.

I was waiting for someone to mention that.

Hmm, wireless Goldeneye multiplayer...that was enough to win me over.

Dude, wake up! Despite what Nintendo is saying about the GBA and DS being separate lines, its BullSh*t. How is Nintendo going to support two portable gaming platforms and keep the market happy at the same time? They can't, period. If the DS takes off, say bye bye to GBA.

The Nintendo DS is NOT a gameboy. How clear can Nintendo make it.

If they don't want you to consider it a "Gameboy" then why will it play GBA carts?

I've got my GBA I'm not wasting 200 on another handheld.

200$ for another gameboy-type? Just because it's double screens? Why in the good f*ck would you use or need 2 screens anyway?? ARGH! This is so stupid!

its sad when blind people try making a point, when clearly they've been living under a rock for the past year. Read up before you rant pointlessly. Its not just "two screens", my god you people are so dense.
Quote this comment #12.2 Posted by paulhaskew on 17 Sep 2004 - 03:35
agreed
Quote this comment #12.3 Posted by Sage_Override on 17 Sep 2004 - 04:31
Dense? Tell me, Sir Reginald, what makes this handheld so great? Before you insult someone, please fill in details about why I am so "dense." Friggin' Techno-weenie.

By the way, anyone agreeing with this half-wit is truly sad. Besides the fact that this guy insults someone "blindly," he has passively insulted everyone by saying "You people are so dense." If we are so dense, then why post or bother to read? For that matter, why respond to my "dense" post in a very insulting manner? To prove how much of a jack ass you are? You'll probably say not everyone on these boards is dense, well, then don't set yourself up for a trap. Twit.

yea they will once teh psp outsells theres by a huge margin theyll do anythign to stay alive
Quote this comment #13.2 Posted by Juguard on 16 Sep 2004 - 05:06
I don't think nothing out there is/was as successful as Nintendo Gameboy. I don't think the PSP will just outsell, and be more successful just overnight. It takes time to compete with someone who has been doing it for over a decade.

it took Sony 2 years with the playstation. as long as Nintendo doesn't make idiotic business decisions during the course of the war, they should be alright, if they make stupid decisions, plain and simple Sony is going to pull an upset.

A very good price considering that's mostly due to the weak state of the American dollar right now. As I understand it, Japanese and and American prices don't differ that much (when you convert them to English pounds, anyway), and right now both equate to around the same price. A sub-£100 pricepoint. If I were American I wouldn't worry, a price cut is bound to happen once the dollar picks up again. My estimate is 150.

I will sell my GBA SP and buy that for sure. Someone where I work want to buy it from me for 70$ so I will accept, then I will go buy the somewhere where they don't charge taxes (Quebec "marché aux puces" and they do still offers the warranty so...

ABC and a half!
