Valve today confirmed the final package and pricing options for purchasing Half-Life 2 through the company's Steam distribution service. Starting tomorrow, October 7 at 11am Pacific, users will be able to purchase Half-Life 2 via Steam. Of course, the game won't unlock for you until it is officially released, but you will get the final version of Counter-Strike: Source right away. Not a bad way to pass the time. Those of you who bought the ATI/Half-Life 2 bundle are eligible for the Bronze package, though you also have the option to apply the Bronze price toward purchase of a more-deluxe package.

Here's the official breakdown of the packages and pricing:

1. Bronze -- $49.95
  • Half-Life 2*
  • Counter-Strike: Source
2. Silver -- $59.95
  • Half-Life 2*
  • Counter-Strike: Source
  • Half-Life 1: Source*
  • Day of Defeat: Source*
  • Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam
3. Gold -- etc...

*To be made available upon products' release.

3. Gold -- $89.95

  • Complete Half-Life 2 Strategy Guide from Prima Games
  • 3 different Half-Life 2 posters
  • Half-Life Collector's box
  • Half-Life 2 hat
  • Half-Life 2 postcard
  • Half-Life 2 stickers
  • Half-Life 2 Soundtrack CD
  • Chance to win a trip to Valve! (1 trip offered for every 5000 Gold packages purchased).

news just in... valve selling video of them flogging a dead horse, on steam. + HAT!!
wtf

but seriously, if non-US residents can pay for the game in dollars it'll actually be worth while to get the game like that. The dollar->GBP is pretty good atm.

I'm going for the Silver package, after I found out you have to pay for shipping + insurance on the "free" extras. That, and do I really need a Half-Life 2 Hat? lol.
