Yet another delay leads to rumours that Rare's next title has hopped platform to Xenon.
British developer Rare has announced a further delay to its Xbox-exclusive title Kameo: Elements of Power, with the Microsoft-owned studio pushing back the title to an unspecified date, raising speculation that the game may be Xbox 2 bound. A statement on the developer's website informs readers that "after a lot of thought and discussion, Rare and Microsoft Game Studios have decided to push back the launch of Kameo: Elements of Power in order to incorporate several changes and new features (some minor, some not so minor)."
Kameo was originally destined for the GameCube before Microsoft's purchase of Rare, and has already been delayed several times - and has reportedly been significantly redesigned on at least one occasion since it was shown in playable form at E3 2003. This fresh delay will undoubtedly push Kameo back into mid to late 2005 - and has caused some to speculate that Microsoft may have decided to re-target the title on its next-generation Xbox 2 platform, which is expected to launch in late 2005.

World of Warcraft will be available as a standard edtion for a suggested $49.99, and as a special collector's edition for $79.99. The special edition includes the game on both CD-ROM and DVD, a behind-the-scenes DVD, an exclusive in-game pet, a cloth map of the game world, a soundtrack CD, an Art of the World of Warcraft coffee table book, and a commemorative game manual signed by the development team. Both versions include a first month free. Pretty sweet.
"World of Warcraft has been our largest undertaking to date," said Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "When we set out to create a massively multiplayer online game, our goal was to expand the scope of the Warcraft universe by offering an incredibly dynamic game experience. We're extremely proud of the game we've created, and we believe players will be very pleased when they see what we have in store for them."
Now, one of the only questions remaining -- apart from what your first character name will be -- is whether you can finish Half-Life 2 in time to pick up the next great PC release of the season. We think you can. We think this is going to be one very hot holiday.

the animations on some of the characters is ****ing awesome.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks, Rare lives to delay. When other studios like Insomniac can make near perfect games in a one year development cycle, and Rare can spend 5 years on something as massively mediocre as Star Fox Adventures you know something has gone wrong. (yes, they've always delayed, but at least a quality game came after all the delays in the past)
This is the house that Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye, and Banjo Kazooie built after all. But they sure don't look like the same company at the moment. I'd say Conker is a good way to find out if they still have the magic, but that game has it's gameplay roots on the N64, Kameo will be the best indication of Rare's current state - as it is truely a new game, rather than a remake with an expanded multiplayer mode
