The Halo 2 Autoupdate is a small piece of software which will improve the functionality of Halo 2, most notably in the following areas:

Matchmaking: Some players have experienced irritating delays while waiting for a game to be found while in Quickmatch and Optimatch. This is caused by a combination of factors, including connection speed and other detailed nuances of matchmaking. We have isolated the cause and applied a solution to the autoupdate which should normalize that wait time.

480p Support: The autoupdate will improve support for 480p resolutions on a wide range of HDTV and EDTV displays, correcting a flaw that the software encountered with some sets causing part of the HUD to be obscured. This problem does not currently occur on all HDTV sets, so it is possible that your specific set is unaffected right now and it will therefore not be altered or changed by this autoupdate. If you are seeing the HUD clip or bleed off the screen in 480p widescreen and 4:3 modes) this should address that problem perfectly.

Foundation: As something of a treat for players, we’ve decided to make the unlockable multiplayer map, Foundation, available to everyone. Previously, to unlock Foundation, it was necessary to both complete the game and activate a “training event” on the final level. We reckon that was too tough for most, and wanted very much to share Foundation – inspired by our old shoot ‘em up Marathon – with Halo 2 players everywhere. Once you have the autoupdate, you’ll be able to play this rarely seen arena map with anyone you wish. And be sure to try a game of four-team CTF on this map. It's a hoot!

the latest star wars game on the ps2 has been patched too.. its a pain because it takes up about 2mb on the memory card, just to play online. Then again, i dont play it!

Splinter Cell 2 would have been doomed in multiplayer if it didn't get patched because it crashed whenever you selected quick-match

surely Live! (or any other online service on the "other" consoles) needs to be patchable, otherwise you're gonna get spoofers and cheaters and exploiters and the like. It's not exactly likely it will be completely bug or vulnerability free when it leaves the Microsoft plateau, so it has to be patchable.

Although I realise these aren't exactly "security" updates and that therefore renders my point meaningless.

DON'T GET ON!!! If you do, and can still play, your doom will catch up with you. Unfortunately.

4 player CTF in Foundation rocks!

Any one know what files are added to the system? I really don't want to take my X-Box onto live since it is modded and with all the new security features risk having it banned even with my chip off.

theres still a bit of a wait, though its noticeably faster. Though, one odd thing, single player has SLOWED down! in loading times. After the updatei loaded my saved campaign, it took 5mins to load!!! usually takes a few seconds! wierd.

Still, one of the best games of the year! bang up to date! an update in week one!!
cool

#14.1 Martog on 18 Nov 2004 - 04:34
I'm waiting for SP2 with the enhanced security measures built into Cortona to prevenent attacks from the Convenant!
#15 HolyLiaison on 18 Nov 2004 - 09:36
Sorry, SP2 is being delayed while we work on HFS (Halo File System)

! Update ! We've decided to not include HFS in our next update to speed up development and delay everything cool you were waiting for for about a year.

! Updated Update ! SP2 no longer exists. Sorry.

cool, does this mean we get XBox Live access free-of-charge due to the game not being up-to-scratch?
