Microsoft has announced details of its latest promotion for the Xbox Live online gaming service, with the firm offering a free Xbox game to existing members who persuade a friend to sign up. The promotion runs from now until the end of January, and is open to Xbox Live members in European countries who get their friends to sign up a paid subscription to the service.

Xbox Live has been receiving its toughest workout yet in the past week, thanks to the launch of the Live-enabled Halo 2, while football fans are keenly awaiting the arrival of Pro Evolution Soccer 4 on the platform next week. However, the list of games on offer in the promotion doesn't include Halo 2 - instead, gamers can choose from recent titles including Fable and Sudeki, or older games such as Ninja Gaiden, Rallisport Challenge 2, Project Gotham Racing 2, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Counter-Strike, Midtown Madness 3, or Links 2004.

How is this new? They've done this at least 3 times now.

... almost every one of those games are $20 brand new at stores and the others don't cost MS but maybe $1 in licensing. i still won't sign up for Xbox Live although i want to whoop some ppl in Ultra Bust-A-Move i will find a free alternative to play it with. i don't see the worth of paying money for a "multiplayer" feature you already should be paying for when buying the game. it is almost like they are charging you twice. i like how a lot of Xbox games are really decent priced but as for the online MP, i'll just skip it.

to whoever said about charging us twice,
take a look at halo2, its THE most perfected multiplayer environment for an FPS ever, its got full leveling system, records statistics for millions of players and keeps them perminantly for you, shows you pics of your match on every server you go on,
full use of voice system, clan-system built-in, matchmaking systems,

they couldnt do things like the stats without the live payments.
i bought live for halo2, its well worth it.
