Square Enix says upcoming RPG won't be released this fiscal year; new release date is April '05 at the earliest.

According to the Asahi Shinbun and Impress Gamewatch, Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII won't release until Spring 2005 at the earliest. While Square Enix previously stated that the PlayStation 2 RPG would hit Japan sometime between this winter and spring, during its mid-term financial meeting today the company announced that the game will not be released during the current fiscal year. Square's fiscal year ends March 31, 2005.

I'd rather have a finished game than have it a few months or so sooner.

damned valve for popularizing this trend

its ok, Final Fantasy started going downhill since FF VII now that was a horible game
#5.1 mohennessey on 20 Nov 2004 - 00:39
what!? ff7 a horrible game? then what, in your view, is a good game?
#5.2 perochan on 20 Nov 2004 - 09:08
wtf, ff7 was a horrible game? then u dont know nothing about final fantasy.
#5.3 Rudy on 20 Nov 2004 - 15:43
i know alot more about final fantasy than you do, i've played every single FF (including the jap ones) and FF was best in 2d, there's no games better then Final Fantasy 4 and 6
#5.4 mohennessey on 20 Nov 2004 - 20:53
oh no you know more about a video game series than i do. ive played the ff series and there is nothing horrible about ff7 as you say. but i guess since youve been a hardcore ff enthusiast that gives you the right to call games, specifically ff7, horrible.

#5.5 nookadum on 21 Nov 2004 - 09:05
The thing is, Rudy is right, FF7 was a horrible game compared to say, Front Mission or FF4 and 6.

They're still going with this series eh?
#6.1 Ned on 20 Nov 2004 - 06:04
That's what's wierd about it. It's not really a series now is it? There was no continuing story from FFI to FFII to FFIII...ect. (The exception to this was final fantasy X 2.) It seems that squaresoft is just using the final fantasy name to increase it's sales.

There are common elements and characters that hold the stories together, even if they don't lead into one another. Playing through every single one, I can say they all had similar elements, and they all took place in the same universe.

FFX and X-2 were a stretch, though.

ff10 sucked ff 10-2 was a little better but i want ff12 to be a great game so they can delay as much as they want. As long as they make a great game

What about 11? It seems to be pretty popular. People are even making comics about it.
#8 eilegz on 20 Nov 2004 - 06:54
too bad first gt4, then kof 2002/2003 and now ff xii

ff7 was great
f8 was alright but could've been better
ff9 has a song or 2 from ff7 so ff7 and ff9 r kinda similar
also f11 is an online game not offline plus u need a hard drive to play it
ff12 u dun need a hard drive

Alright, I don't know how ANYONE could have liked FFX-2 unless your ultimate fantasy was to play a Spice Girls RPG or something. All the other Final Fantasies were worth playing, some more than others (4, 6, 7, 9) some less than others (5, but none of them SUCKED, in my opinion. There are far, far worse RPGs out there.

But since I'm not into FFXI (I'm a recovering Everquest addict!) I've been waiting since FFX to get a new GOOD Final Fantasy game ... and now the wait is even longer.

ff7 was amazing - ff8 was good - ff9 was average - ff10 was poor

See a trend developing here....

here's how i would put it:
FF1 - awesome for its time, still a great game today (try the remake for gba)
FF2 - the game was alrite but nothing like the first one
FF3 - nice intro to the jobs system
FF4 - great move to the 16bit world, still IMO one of the best game out there
FF5 - tried to bring back the job system, nice game but story could use some work
FF6 - awesome story with great characters, dont like the esper system that much because it makes all characters the same (any character can be a fighter or a mage etc)
FF7 - where the hell did this come from?? after a great masterpiece (ff6) this game is horible
FF8 - this game was released to make FF7 look good
FF9 - trying to get back to it's roots....one of the best post FF6 Final Fantasy
FF10 - ugh....why not just shoot me....
FF10-2 - please stop the pain
FF11 The ONLY FF i never played....and prolly will never play since its online
FF12.....i'll see when its released....doesnt look promising though

Final Fantasy is bulls_it these days. The whole brand name has been going downhill.
#12.1 Rudy on 20 Nov 2004 - 16:21
i agree
#13 altezza on 20 Nov 2004 - 16:49
Financial meeting eh? The FF12 developers were starving for more cash to develop this game.

How can all of you be so angry about the series. I believe that it is not going downhill at all. Its just that each game is a departure from the last, which brings good and bad aspects. I do believe that the games are getting better, especially in the balancing. There are hard parts and fun parts, but nothing that makes you frustrated or thing "the game just cheated". FFI good? Maybe for its time, but now people expect more for their money. Stop living in the past. If you want an older game, play it or make your own. For those of us who want a new experience, we can wait a few more months

Couldn't of said it better myself , well I started playing from FFVIII and went on from there, I liked FFVIII and I also enjoyed FFIX as well I've recently got a PS2 and will be getting FFX (possibly FFX-2 as well) the delay is no real big deal, gives me time to catch up (been only able to go as far as FFIX till recently) so by the time it does come out not only will it be good (How could it not be, it's got bunny women! ) I would of had a chance to play around with the more recent ones I've missed out on

I dislike the way the "Online FF" was called FF11 rather than FFnline or something like that. Has time goes by, it'll become the usless and forgotten FF(since it won't be able to be played anymore) and it'll just look stupid

I'm greatly looking forward to the FF7 movie, Does annoy me tho that they seem to be milking FF7 now, I mean with the Mobile phone game and the dodgy PS2 thingy. If anything, I wish they would just remake the damn game for the PS2 along with the film(or whatever) and then leave it at that.

one question.. does the final fantasy go on PC? i recently got a graphics card upgrade and im curious if theres going to (eventually) be a PC version of it.

i want to see how much different the PC version will be.
#16.1 Lanky on 22 Nov 2004 - 11:52
You can get 7,8 and 11 on pc. Your new card probably wont even make a difference anyways, only polygons being characters.
Also 1-6 can be emulated.
