Ubisoft's squad-based shooter will not be released in South Korea because the story goes "way too far".

Citing a plotline that goes "way too far", South Korea's Media Rating Board has rejected approval of Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2, according to American military newspaper Stars and Stripes. This (obviously) forced the game's Korean publisher to abandon its plans for a localization of the squad-based shooter.

While disappointing, it is unsurprising that Ghost Recon 2 would rile South Korean censors. Its near-future storyline is set in the year 2007 on the PlayStation 2 and 2011 on the Xbox, and features commando missions into a conflict-wracked North Korea. Mass warfare on the Korean peninsula is a touchy subject, since North Korea is still technically at war with South Korea. That nation's capital, Seoul, has an estimated 11,000 artillery pieces aimed at it by its northern neighbor, whose Stalinist dictator, Kim Jong Il, has said he could turn the city into a "sea of fire" any time he wanted.

Why does each console version take place in a different year?

I don't really know. A bit pointless if you ask me.

Anyway I've got this game, it's pretty decent.

because it takes that 4 extra years for the "real" items in the game to look better... (and this coming from a ps2/pc fanboy...)

probably because the games were made by different development teams, and so that for people that have xbox AND playstation2 there is enough different to warrant buying both versions... just a hunch.

cause, as far as I know, the PS2 version is a DIRECT prequel to the XBOX version, as in, the are sequential. I honestly don't know how the PC version fits in tho

It looks pretty awesome, but i dont have any new consoles, :p

but i watched a little featurette about this game, and it says the PS2 version's storyline leads to the xbox version one.

i also watched that the ps2 version is based on the Unreal engine, while the xbox is based on their original one.

Why...?

I don't understand...?

Is it because it's a little too close to reality than fiction... duno...

Odd and silly

Imagine on a big scale. Come to Asia a bit more, live here for about 5 years and you'll know a bit. North Korea is making more trouble than we will ever be comfortable with.
