Electronic Arts has revealed that it's working on a new game in the Command & Conquer: Red Alert series in an email sent to fan site operators by VP and executive producer Mark Skaggs. With the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth nearly upon us, Skaggs said the company wanted to start turning attention toward its next project, and that in an unusual twist - perhaps unprecedented for Electronic Arts - he was breaking the news to fans of the game ahead of the gaming press.

"We are very proud to announce that the team that brought you Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, Command & Conquer Yuri's Revenge, and Command & Conquer Generals has officially started work on our next project set in the Red Alert universe," he wrote. Referring to the Sage graphics engine used for Generals, he added: "Expect us to leverage and continue to evolve this powerful engine as we start work on our new Command & Conquer game."

Damn another one?? I was a big fan of the original C&C games but these last few have sucked (IMO)
#1.1 angrybrit on 08 Dec 2004 - 16:53
Last few? The series died after the first Red Alert.

They have no idea what to do over there with this franchise...

I thought I was the only one that didn't enjoyed anything after the original Red Alert. Generals Sucked damn much.
#1.3 moeburn on 08 Dec 2004 - 21:03
The series sucked after Westwood died, basically.
#1.4 Xero on 08 Dec 2004 - 22:06
Finally people we agree with me. EA totally ruined the series. Red Alert 1 was the best of them all. No matter how hard EA tries they will never beat Westwoods original.
#1.5 moeburn on 08 Dec 2004 - 22:13
Explease me cuse, Command and Conquer was the best of them all, mainly because it was the most challenging of them all.
#1.6 bfoot045 on 09 Dec 2004 - 00:46
Generals was a test on the new sage engine for their lord of the rings game, it was horrible and was meant to be, as with the command and conquer title, it would sell, and they could gain that 10 million they lost developing the sage engine for generals. Maybe if EA doesnt but in like they did with generals, EA screwed the story. I will buy this because RA2 is one of my favorite games ever, but im not going to waste my money on any future ones if this one is like generals.
#1.7 Dodgy on 09 Dec 2004 - 15:47
they werent that bad, ok the stories were kinda non-existant, but the mulitplayer was kinda fun.
i quite like the generals engine, i just want some story back & yeah bring back tanya, she was cool lol - shes probly ageing a bit now tho...those RA games must b getting on. not too sure about new actors taking the old characters.
Me want more cool videos between missions like RA1

Too true. I loved the original C&C (and I found the video acting to be good) and thought Red Alert was good, though the units were bland and not as creative. Actually, Dune 2 was really good as well. RA2 was quite pretty graphically, but pretty dull and unoriginal.

Hopefully they can start adding backing all the gameplay they've taken out since the original game - each game since seems to have slightly improved graphically, but gone backwards with gameplay.

I'm glad you mention the video acting. Red Alert had so cheesy acting it was painful. C&C 2 Tiberian Sun had something cool: in-game events with video footage. Really sorry it was so few of it,

I guess theres too much piracy on PC so they have to cut corners. I have 5 friends with PC and only one of them bought Half Life 2.
#1.10 SaLiVa on 10 Dec 2004 - 14:49
Cant blame them, the game was made in 1995/7 I cant really remember. Its a damn good game because it was one which had those footages after each mission. I think its quite something Red Alert stood out with.

I loved Red Alert when I was a younger lad, playing online was hella laggy too Never did care to buy Red Alert 2 because I knew straight away from the screenshots, they'd flopped it. Man! 640x480 gaming was the biatch!

I thought red alert 2 and generals were great, except generals didn't have sea units. I would love to see red alert 2 or something like that using the generals game engine
#2.1 bfoot045 on 09 Dec 2004 - 00:50
The funny thing is, the team that made the game had a full naval fleet developed, EA took it out.
#2.2 8tImER on 09 Dec 2004 - 00:57
Wh0t?!

Got any links on that?
#2.3 Hills420 on 10 Dec 2004 - 23:51

Red Alert 2 = Awesome
Generals = sucked.
Red Alert 3 = please be gooooood.
#4 Mx² on 08 Dec 2004 - 16:52

You people don't seem to understand that this is EA, they WILL **** it up, just like they did with generals.
As much as I don't like the idea of a star wars based game, I'll be keeping my eye on petroglyph (which is made up of most of the old Westwood employees) instead of EA.
#5.1 8tImER on 09 Dec 2004 - 00:58
Thanks for mentioning that name, didn't know where all those guys went after EA killed Westwood.
*adds to boomkarks*

good loking for a sequel of this RTS
#7 Surr3al on 08 Dec 2004 - 19:23
I hope we will finally get a good C&C again. Perhaps a more innovative way for resource management.

another RA? what about the original series?
#8.1 moeburn on 08 Dec 2004 - 22:29
I would love to see another GDI vs NOD battle, but that would involve getting this guy back:

/me still has his pin.
#8.2 B-52Stratofortress on 10 Dec 2004 - 05:53
That's Joseph D. Kucan and he is still working in EA Pacific. From IMDB we can see that he was director of filmography in Command & Conquer: Generals so he hasn't gone anywhere.

EA is always looking for a way to score some easy money. Like the new goldeneye game which totally sucks balls. They could careless about the game they just want the money
#9.1 PimpinWithAaron on 09 Dec 2004 - 03:15
agreed
so many crap titles from them its unreal
they are lowering the standards for the entire industry
#9.2 genericism on 09 Dec 2004 - 03:15
you hit the nail on the head there.

ea is just one big crapfactory. they pump out crap they know the average consumer will buy and they rake in the dough. who cares if the game is buggy? not their problem. those lazy developers that they make worth 16 hour days for a lousy wage should have done something about it. i've also noticed them invading tv shows quite a bit lately. there was a report on australian 60 minutes a while ago about the EVILS of video games (yeah, right). anyway, they talked for like 20 seconds about stuff like halo, then took a trip to ea's hq and showed how great*cough* they were for the next 15 minutes. i should stop ranting, but i just hate ea.

what game will they take and screw up next? thinking about it scares me.
#10 MegaManXcalibur on 09 Dec 2004 - 05:47
God I love the C&C series and the Red Alert series were the cream of the crop. But I hope to God EA doesn't screw up by make Red Alert 3 like Generals (the only C&C game I didn't like). It would be great if they made it play like the classic C&C games.
#11 glazzz on 09 Dec 2004 - 06:20
too bad they can't make a easy way to get RA 1 and C&C to run on winXp
#12 mattking on 09 Dec 2004 - 08:52
lets just hope that if they do make it we get proper briefings with full videos, actors etc. I got really annoyed with the sh*t 20 second audio intro to each mission for Generals.
#13 KaaR on 09 Dec 2004 - 09:31
I'd like to see sexy Tanya Again
#14 Magallanes on 09 Dec 2004 - 12:02
The difference into Generals and the old-classic c&c is the strategic. In c&c the strategic is the more the merrier. In Generals is quite more strategic (zone strategic mainly) rather to win because you have the more biggest army.

Also Generals is more reallistic, in the Irak's wars, you can see almost the same units in the game and in the reallity.

And in Generals you don't spend all time in take resources or upgrading units, and even low-profile units can be useable in any parts of the game. In the old c&c, low-profile units are useless when the wars is managed only by powerfull units.

Anyways, many disagreed with generals because its 100% 3d. In this case the game don't suck but your 3d card!

#15.1 paulstones on 09 Dec 2004 - 16:16

also, yeah, EA probably will make the next RA crap. hopefully not,
#15.2 Dale on 09 Dec 2004 - 22:09
The EVIL harkonan (i cant spell it anymore..)
#15.3 GamblerFEXonlin on 10 Dec 2004 - 01:46
It's Harkonnen, with a slight pause on Har.

They did, it was called Dune 2000 and had horrendous music and video acting, and bad gameplay. I still play the original Dune 2, its just eh better I think.
#16 envision on 09 Dec 2004 - 15:21
I remember playing the original C&C 2d games.. dunno which ones and didn't really get too involved in them. I love Generals and Zero Hour even more so.. but I can remember the originals and know that they are very different indeed!

I may be alone in this, but I would welcome RA3 on an improved Sage engine!
#17 koocha on 10 Dec 2004 - 11:53
I loved Generals and Zero Hour. Building up about 10 Nuclear weapons and launching them all on one base at the same time...bliss

Looking forward to RA3
#18 SoLiD_MasteR on 10 Dec 2004 - 12:17
