you know...i've been pretty impressed with what games I've seen on the X-Box in the past couple of months. It is interesting how old this system is, and how well the games stack up against PC titles that require new hardware. I'm very interested in seeing how the X-Box version of Doom 3 compares w/ the PC one.

ummm...PC users already got Doom 1 and 2 many years ago. 3rd party engine/modfications really add new light (litterally) to the game. Check it out if you have some of you old WAD files around

i would play doom I or II online if they made that... that would be awesome.
#8.1 nic on 05 Jan 2005 - 22:19
check out the 3rd party modified doom engines jDoom and Doom Legacy. They offer TCP/IP play, but I haven't tried it over the internet yet.

Wasn't doom III for the PC a pile of monkey's crap (so I heard a lot of people saying) IF they bring out the doom 3 collector's edition for the PC I MAY get it not until then though.

A lot of people say Doom 3 is bad because of how dark the game is (you often find yourself using the flashlight). But in all honesty it was done to add a horror effect to the game, and it really did help with the creepy "I'm going to die" atmosphere that Doom 3 tried (and suceeded) to create. The only thing bad about this game in my opinion is that it ends way sooner then I would have liked.

in some respects doom3 was much better than alot of people expected.. it ran on more peoples' pc's than expected, and looked great.
but in others it was still a bad game. it was very repetitive, but then, so were the originals. Graphically people bashed it because a lot of people though everything looked overly shiney.

generally it's good to see a game developer realising last minute that a port was underperforming, and holding it back for several months to refine it and make it a more perfect game, like id has done with the xbox port.

I loved the first few levels and the darkness certainly added a sense of fear, but soon it became boring and the darkness became annoying. You're just going through the game killing the same monsters over and over, crawling through dark hallways that look the same as the ones in every previous level. At least near the end you got to see some new areas but the gameplay was the same from start to finish. Find the PDA, open the door, kill the monster, rinse and repeat. As for the graphics it just looked like everything had a layer of plastic wrap on it, at least what you could see. Just my opinions of course but I was very disappointed with this game.

Well, everything what Skyfrog said could be said about HL2, but the new areas came out earlier in the game (the water level, the buggy, and the crane).

Both HL2 and Doom 3 cancel each other out. It always comes down to that.

Sorry but I don't think Doom 3 is even in the same ballpark as Half-Life 2. Doom 3 had basically two areas, dark hallways and hell. Half-Life 2 was FAR more diverse as far as levels (City 17, the countryside, Ravenholm, etc) and things to do. It had a much better storyline also, and I found it very interesting from start to finish. With Doom 3 I was bored to death most of the time. Not to mention the physics; in HL2 you could interract with practically everything. Throw in the gravity gun and it's even better. With Doom 3 you couldn't break or pick up a single thing other than those stupid PDAs. As far as graphics I think Half-Life 2 looked a lot better, while Doom 3 was nothing more than a plastic coated tech demo. Just my opinion but I don't think you can even compare the two.

and I guess there is no PS2 version of it. That's okay. I don't really think highly of my PS2.
#10.1 ragn4rokk 2.0 on 06 Jan 2005 - 03:57
Imagine how much they'd need to scale back to get it to run on Playstation.
#10.2 shao on 06 Jan 2005 - 13:21
it'd never be ported on to the ps2.. it can't do the per pixel lighting and shading required to create the atmosphere that doom3 is built around. add to the that the memory available for texturing.. it'd look awful.

but then all ps2 owners are used to awful looking games, so would probably buy bucketloads of the game.

It is technically not possible...........to my knowledge at least...
#10.4 Black Raven on 07 Jan 2005 - 01:51
Technically its possible. I remeber an article back a while ago saying they got doom 3 to run on an old voodoo card.
#10.5 nookadum on 08 Jan 2005 - 10:55
Sure, the PS2 has worse graphics than the XBox (not by much, mind you), but at least the games have better gameplay than most on the XBox.
