A Counter-Strike: Source update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

  • Added Counter-Strike bots. For a more detailed description, click here
  • Added new bomb defusal map de_tides
  • Updated version of de_cbble to allow bots to navigate ladders
  • Updated version of cs_office. Fixes minor issue with projector
  • Updated version of de_dust2 to allow 40 players
  • Optimization to the way that dynamic props are checked. On higher end CPUs, this can result in more than a 5% total frame rate increase
  • Fixed bug where players would get twice the normal money at the start of a round
  • Weapon models are now checked at startup to make sure they are within limits for size
  • Fixed a bug that would allow a player to throw two flashbangs at once
  • Added “motdfile” cvar, which sets the filename for the message of the day on the server
  • Fixed logic that will automatically kick players for killing hostage or being idle for a long time

It's anything but crap ffs! It's well good.
Quote this comment #1.3 Posted by Adem on 21 Jan 2005 - 13:00
no its not..netcode fixes would be "well good" other bug fixes like the other flashbang bug fix and many others. also if valve actually finished the game, that would be well good.

umm ye... YAUSU - Yet Another Useless Steam Update!

how about "released de_train, de_nuke and ported cpl maps" or "updated VAC for 1.6" or "released VAC for source" or "removed all those useless barrels and s*** from otherwise ok maps" or "decided to implement 1.6 recoil" or "dumped source and re-released 1.6" or SOMETHING USEFUL! ffs, valve promises us they will have source ready for summer cpl and STILL its 1000000000miles from ready!
Quote this comment #8.1 Posted by Smigit on 21 Jan 2005 - 03:21
If you prefer the original CS why dont you just play that, noones stopping you.
Quote this comment #8.2 Posted by sloppycode on 21 Jan 2005 - 10:28
i agree, nuke and train and 1.6 recoil would be my top priority.

However - remember the majority of players who play source are the ones who bought cs:cz, without sounding snobbish: people who camp behind crates with mp5s/umps/p90s and when you complain about it (after all, this game was originated from quake2, best FPS there ever was, and action packed), they tell you it's "tactics".

So they release maps aimed at the crowd who aren't competitive with computer games, or more precisely, the type of people who were always picked last in teams sports at school.

Pretty funny to see people fighting over the right way to play Counterstrike. It's the most basic game there is for crying out loud.

i agree with u on that antareus

Try buying it, cheapass.
Quote this comment #10.2 Posted by theyarecomingforyou on 21 Jan 2005 - 15:07
I don't understand why anyone would admit that they pirate games here - if you like the game, buy it (as it is one of the best games in years) - if you don't like it, don't play it.

For about 15 minutes this morning i played CSS and was talking with my teammates but they didn't respond and didn't do what i suggested, but they were playing pretty well and i was getting shot and everything was otherwise normal.

I then realised i was in a server by myself, all the other players were bots. I thought "wow". They played like real people. I am truely amazed at the ai that these things have been programmed with. Sure they're not the best of players but they'll camp and plant bombs, wait for backup, give cover when you're planting etc, the whole thing felt very slick. Used to be that the bots would just run around and be stupid or not move at all.

tides nearly killed my fps, talk about laggy as hell ..., and i thought chateau was bad.
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #13 Posted by sloppycode on 21 Jan 2005 - 10:21
game still blows, even in DX7 mode. It's the models to blame
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #14 Posted by RobertH on 21 Jan 2005 - 14:43
Get a new PC?

Anyhow - yeah the bot AI is rather inteligent at times. However if you set it to 'easy' they just become stupid rather than poor aimers lol. I have been playing it offline with a server full of bots and it was still fast (with 25 or so bots) and the game felt the same as it does online - even down to some bots camping spawn points lol.

Lol, CS and all shiity variants still suck ass in the gaeplay dept. Full of angry 13 year olds who whine and bitch if you actually try to be tactful and not run around like a headless chicken.
Quote this comment #18.1 Posted by Aaryn Kasra on 22 Jan 2005 - 18:58
Thats why I only play with bots now, and its more fun anyways can you can order them around and actually make a strategy each round, instead of having ur team randomly run around and die cause no one wants to co-operate

If HL2 gets an expansion pack, I'd probably re-install Steam again. Otherwise HL2DM and CS: Source just suck.
Quote this comment #19.1 Posted by Dark Warhawk on 26 Jan 2005 - 16:47
i agree with HL2 death match it does suck but CS S is fun. i just been playing with the bots and i have had more fun playing with them then the 12 year olds on the servers.
