DICE's financial report reveals its much-anticipated PC shooter won't deploy until the final part of Q2; console version due on "Microsoft's forthcoming platform" by year's end.

Throughout history, major military offensives have seen their launch dates in constant flux. Such was the case with Battlefield 2, one the most anticipated military games of 2005. Originally set for a "Spring 2005" release, the game was moved forward to a March release date last year, before slipping back to its original Q2 window.

Now it seems the game is getting a more concrete release date. In the annual earnings report it released today, Battlefield 2 developer Digital Illusions CE (DICE) revealed that its flagship shooter won't hit PCs until the end of the second quarter. "The release date of Battlefield 2 has now been set to June 2005," read the company's financial report, which did not list a specific date. "This implies that Digital Illusions will not be making any game releases in the first quarter of the current year."

This is gonna suck donkey nuts. I hate desert combat, and this looks to be more of the same. Just one brains opinion. I'll probably end up buying it anyway because it's "hip" now days to keep up I guess. Although i'd never play it online.

I really liked Desert Combat, so this should be great. The screenshots have looked really good.

I hope the fact that it will show up on the next Xbox doesn't mean the PC side of the game will suffer because of it (simplified controls, etc.)

Nah.. I bet this will be designed the way all games should be (and many used to be).. Designed first for the much more powerful PC side, then dumbed down to work on a CoSuL.........

I am happy to see, even though it will be released for the XBOX (dont really care, I hate consoles), it will be released first for the PC. Low res consoles make me sick.

They need the extra time to come up with a no patch version.

Although I went out and bought BF1942, I was hugely disappointed with it. The concept was superb, but the execution was terrible. The netcode was laggy as hell (yes, I played on low ping servers, yes, I have a very fast connection), and the movement felt blocky and jumpy, it just had a cheap and nasty feeling to it. It definitely seemed to me that in the first one, they decided that being able to have 64 people on a server was more important than making the gameplay smooth for the people on the server.

Having got that off my chest, I have high hopes for the sequel, the graphics look superb, I only hope that the helicopters aren't quite so hard to fly. The ones in Desert Combat were controlled realistically, but having no sense of gravity or momentum, and having your vision locked in a tiny field of view, as if you had blinders on, made it all but impossible to fly.
