Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced today that first day sales of Gran Turismo 4 have broken the record for Playstation 2 in PAL territories. The single day sales have been impressive to say the least, shipping 3,182,535 units of the game. The game is also shipped with the new slimmer Playstation 2 model. In total so far, the Gran Turismo series has sold about 38 million units around the world.

"The reaction to Gran Turismo 4 from retailers across PAL territories has exceeded even our high expectations," said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "This Day One number reflects the popularity and broad appeal of the series – not only with seasoned GT buyers but with driving fans, motoring enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. We expect Gran Turismo 4 to become the "must-have" title for anyone who owns a PlayStation 2 or anyone thinking about purchasing one."

GT4 is weak in my opinion. I will wait for Forza Motorsports and the addition of play on Xbox Live.
#3.1 jmole on 09 Mar 2005 - 18:28
... and there are 38 million people who beg to differ.
#3.2 Flash on 09 Mar 2005 - 20:10
you must have not been a fan of the GT series to begin with
#3.3 Surr3al on 09 Mar 2005 - 20:24
GT4 is not weak in my opinion. :p

GT3 was great, and GT4 is a great improvement upon it. This new addition has been worth the wait.

lol... I regret spending 30 bucks on GT3, cause there was so few cars. (even if the graphics were great) They should have scraped GT3 and make GT4 as GT3.
#3.5 dolimite35 on 09 Mar 2005 - 23:16
he should explain his "opinion" i hate post that dont explain why they dont like anything. I see an "just because" reply from him coming on
#3.6 SecretAgentMan on 10 Mar 2005 - 08:20
The GT series was good on the PlayStation but it is nothing special now. Good call Shane.
#3.7 BiGdUsTy on 10 Mar 2005 - 09:52
whats that smell oh it's just another XBOX fan boy.
Don't get me wrong i have an XBOX and love it but no racing game to date on the box has even touched GT.

Forza Motorsports will have to prove it's self.

Just another reason to have all 3 systems.
#4 S7R1K3R on 09 Mar 2005 - 18:27
yea well its a great game could have been better though with online play. only hope the next one on ps3 will be online. this is like the only reason id get a playstation.

#5.1 wa22guy on 10 Mar 2005 - 00:42
What does being an American have to do with it? I'm an American and I like Nintendo products.
#6 niel19_us on 09 Mar 2005 - 18:52
I already have Grand Trismo 4, I will wait for Froza Motersport to realease first to make any ruling about which one's better.

oh come on, we all know forza won't even be able to touch a game that is 4 generations old. not saying forza won't be good or great, but come on, be realistic. who are they copying anyways?
(this is coming from an xbox fan)
#7.1 jmole on 09 Mar 2005 - 19:23
It won't be able to touch GT4 considering there are approx 20 million XBoxes and 38 million GT4 games have been sold. Each XBox owner would have to buy 2 copies.
#7.2 nw_raptor on 10 Mar 2005 - 09:16
38m is the total of GT series... not GT4 alone.

I'm only waiting for Forza because it has a Corrado in it.. hehe..

But my initial impressions of GT4 (had it for an hour or two now) - well, I dont know if its just me but the graphics in game actually seem slightly less impressive than GT3:A Spec?! The new handling system is a liiitle bit unusual but i'm sure i'll adjust.. but like the new cars and the new features available. I'm sure its going to be awesome once I get into it a bit more
#8.1 vetBroChaos on 09 Mar 2005 - 22:40
are you serious? gt3 looks like crap compared to 4. fire em both up and look...
again, as an xbox guy, the graphics in gt4 are just stunning.
#8.2 Chicane-UK on 09 Mar 2005 - 22:57
I dunno dude.. doing an obvious comparison, I took out my RUF in GT3 and then tried the same car in GT4.. some details have been changed that I like (seem to be able to see through the wheels to the brakes better, etc) but in races at least I dont feel the models are quite as detailed.

No doubting how good the models look when rendered up in the photo gallery though.. dayyyuuumm..

#9.3 SecretAgentMan on 10 Mar 2005 - 08:23
A PC release would be the only version of GT4 worth owning. The graphics are so average on the PS2 and the PC would make it so much better.

When will Gran Turismo 4 be released on PC?
#10.1 Surr3al on 09 Mar 2005 - 20:25
Will it even be?
#10.2 James_McNab on 09 Mar 2005 - 20:40

no gran turismo games ever been released on pc.
#10.5 Boofster on 09 Mar 2005 - 22:07
GT3 was being made for the PC. Sony saw what Polyphony could do and how it was 1000x better than anything ever made on the PS2 and quickly pulled the plug because they would have lost their flagship game and overall the PS2 would have faded in the dust.

If they can push the PS2 this far, imagine what they could do with a 6800. I feel robbed because we could have something amazing but the man is holding us down just to make an extra buck. F* greed.
#10.6 ienhz on 10 Mar 2005 - 00:55
WTF, since when was GT2 made for PC... idiot.
#10.7 Galley on 10 Mar 2005 - 06:47
Gram Turismo will never be released on the PC. It's a"killer app" for the PS2.

I just hope that people realize that there is an Online play version (GT4) coming out...
#11.1 Dale on 09 Mar 2005 - 23:54
sadly.. people don't recognize it.

online play isn't for me. single player is the only way i play.. or multiplayer with friends.

that is a lot of copies to sell in the short period of time its been out though. and im pretty sure the online version won't be that popular because it will be too late by that time.. most people who want the game just won't have the online version.
#11.2 deiong15 on 09 Mar 2005 - 23:59
i could care less about onlien mode as well. to man cheaters its just not fun playing and half the people who plug in on online games feel teh need to cheat. at least half the time ive every played. gets old and moldy and boring after a while. just not wo rth it
#12 supersaiyanjericho on 10 Mar 2005 - 02:38
how come no one mentioned Enthusia ?
#13 Meteorafallen69 on 10 Mar 2005 - 03:02
have you noticed thought that if u look GT4 on Google you come up with pictures of the jappanese "proluge" version i remember hearing that it wasnt released in the US for probelms with the logitech sterring wheel that was made for the game, personally i love 4 its such an inprovement on 3 the gameplay is better athe graphics are munch better i had the game the day it came out i didnt even kno it was out i went to put a 50$ despoit on a PSP for when they come out on the 24th of this month and noticed GT4 sitting there on the shelf behind me and turned around grabbed took the desposit back and bought GT4 but im still buying an X-Box for my birthday...for Rebublic Commando and all the star wars games LOL

GT4 did not sell 38 million copies. The series as a whole has. I like GT4, but I feel cheated because no online play. I am American and I own an xbox and a PS2. I am not biased on systems. It is just that I would like to play online with friends. So stop busting my balls.

I didn't say GT4 sold 38 million copies?

Still makes use of my Logitech MOMO Steering Wheel (both PS2/PC enabled).

Awesome game, way better than GT3 and a half!
#16.1 ABC½ on 10 Mar 2005 - 13:21
Hummm... Did they really release a GT3½?

ABC and a a half!
#16.2 cjrciadt on 10 Mar 2005 - 15:17
They are called the GT concepts released after GT3.
(1 reply) #17 Dodgy on 10 Mar 2005 - 16:02
GT4 is an exceptional game, just as the rest of the GT games were, but there isnt really a big jump between GT3 & GT4, its just more cars, more tracks, slightly better graphics (apparently, i think i need to open my eyes a bit more) and lots of little tweaks which are still pretty cool.

Love the game though, I would have rathered it had On-line play but i aint that bothered, the single player is great!
#17.1 threetonesun on 10 Mar 2005 - 20:07
Trailbraking is much more natural in this one. Also, the added the supercharger!

My flatmate Chris bought a copy of GT4 and he is disappointed that there is no damage model.
#18.1 Boxster17 on 15 Mar 2005 - 12:40
They've said from the beginning there would be no damage in this one, so it's not a suprise. And I'd much rather have them slap in more cars and tracks then spend time on damage physics..
#19 Kyle 899 mckay on 22 Mar 2005 - 00:03
dude i think it did sell more games then halo and if it didnt what ever but gt4 is way better id rather play that any day
