A big thanks goes out to Wulfegang for finding this gem.

Ourcolony has released a streaming video of Microsoft's Xbox 360. Unlike last nights MTV special, this video is worth sitting through. ;)

Windows OneCare is being designed to address core safety concerns such as worms, viruses and spyware, but also to span broader PC health issues: helping protect electronic assets such as digital photos, music, financial data and software; and guarding against performance degradation and system clutter that can result from heavy use. Key capabilities and features of Windows OneCare will include the following:
• Defense against evolving threats. Windows OneCare will provide automatically updated anti-virus, anti-spyware and two-way firewall protection.
• Performance and reliability tools. PC owners will be able to choose to have Windows OneCare automatically carry out periodic maintenance tasks such as disk cleanup, hard-drive defragmentation and file repair. The service also will offer boot-time information and proactive support tools to help improve the customer experience.
• Backup and restore capabilities. Windows OneCare will enable automated backup of files by category on CD and DVD, along with the option to back up all files on the system or only those that have changed since the last time the action was performed. If files are accidentally deleted or corrupted on the PC hard drive, the service is designed to restore saved versions or map them on a new PC.
• Simple, integrated service experience. PC users will have one simple point of reference for checking the overall health of their system. Windows OneCare will automatically notify users of available updates or other recommended actions and enable users to easily act as needed. Otherwise, the service stays quiet and in the background.

"lets see because its MTV first we have to waste 7 mins worth of air time just to watch some f'ing band preform (if I wanted to watch a band preform I would have watched this crappy station any other time. but I just wanna see the new xbo then it has to waste even more time and show us how the pimp my ride guys pimped xbox's (for christ sake) what does this have to do with xbox 360. Then to finish it off we have to watch some half wits playing a game against each other... I would rather see new game footage."

I am still confused, do they all come with a HD or do you have to pay extra?
#5.1 threedaysdwn on 13 May 2005 - 18:42
Right now there is only one model that has been "announced" - the 20GB model.

I would not be surprised if they later add Xbox 360 packages that include larger hard drives (as well as seperate upgrade drives).

I doubt you'll see one without an HD though. At least initially. I for one hope they always include at least some HD. Developers need to know that everyone who has a 360 has a hard drive.
#5.2 jphillips59 on 13 May 2005 - 18:58
I heard there will be one without a HD....so who knows...
#5.3 Smigit on 14 May 2005 - 05:09
I very much doubt they will do both a HD and non HD version. I know it was announced or speculated earlier on, but from a practical point of view it doesnt make much sense to me. Firsly it would probably cost them more to maintain two machines than its worth, secondly alot of people would get very confused when buying games and finding out this or that or the game in full wont work due to them having no HD.

I also heard the HD is detachable...I suppose that would be doable but then its really just a memory card based on a HD instead of flash based memory.

My bet is there will be a HD, even if its not partiucully big (20gig sounds fair...60 - 100 would be great but)

What a nerdy video! :|
(2 replies) #7 HumanSmoke on 13 May 2005 - 18:45
That was a really good video. I am still confused by the processors. One guy on the video said "3 processors" then another one said "3 asymmetric cores". I thought that it was supposed to be 3 dual core processors (IBM chips similar to G5) for a total of 6 cores.
#7.1 Roger on 13 May 2005 - 19:39
It's one processor with 3 cores. Each core has two hardware threads for a total of 6 threads.
#7.2 kronik on 14 May 2005 - 02:14
wouldnt such a beast anhialate todays best 64-bit processor?
(2 replies) #8 noping on 13 May 2005 - 19:10
It is only ONE processor with three cores.. Each of the three cores have to hardware threats.

As we have seen with Intel HT, those additional Hardware threads are Just for marketing, you will see no performance gains in games.

So it leaves it with 3 cores,, not 6!!

#8.1 rIaHc3 on 13 May 2005 - 19:45
um Intel's HT technology does improve encoding video/audio and applications that are designed for Intel HT processors do take advantage of it. Dont make false statements without backing them up.
#8.2 Betaz on 14 May 2005 - 16:40
Yes, well also you don't understand multi-processor computing. Unless your system and the program you are using is designed to run two seperate tasks, then it basically just becomes a load balance and that won't show as much difference. However, in the Xbox 360 each core has a different part of the system to power, and all coding will be written to utilize 2 threads on each core. When coupled with the proper program design, having a cpu, especially as powerful as these are, that has two hardware threads running simultaneously, there is a huge difference. If you have an extremely powerful processor and it can only run 1 thread, then no matter how mundane a task it is performing, it can only perform that one task, finish it, and then move on to the next, therefore wasting all the rest of the power of the CPU. Toss another thread in there and you can utilize the rest of that CPU's power while it finishes the first task.

In short, it makes a huge difference and the performance gain when properly utilized is very large.

I HATE Windows Streaming (wmv) files. It's never synced, ever 30 seconds I have to go back a frame to resync...and yes WMP 10 (latest version) fast broadband.

Why don't they give up and use QuickTime - zero problems with that codec.

Anyways, this Xbox 360 does look nice - but I'm sticking to PC's.
#12.1 chicken-royal on 13 May 2005 - 21:21
why don't you download the video? wmv isnt just to stream.
#12.2 Laptop™ on 13 May 2005 - 22:04
Quicktime is GAY!
#12.3 DjmUK on 13 May 2005 - 22:17
chicken-royal: Because the Download link didn't work for me - it just loads up a site saying High/Low and neither of them does anything on that site.

Laptop: As you're a noob, please keep your fact-less homosexual comments to yourself...remember, those who keep using that word are latent homosexuals themselves

EDIT
chick-royal, it's downloading now - damned site didn't even tell me...just started auto-downloading. 31MB in total.
#12.4 chicken-royal on 14 May 2005 - 22:35
okay no worries. atleast it's sorted now.
#13 fo20 on 13 May 2005 - 21:11

Wow, liquid cooled, and two exaust ports. This might be a bit loud. I didnt' notice what size the two fans are, maybe 80mm.
Im gunna grab my one of these.
#15.1 Pc_Madness on 14 May 2005 - 10:32
I was wondering if I was the only won who spotted that. Liquid Cooling... I dunno if thats the greatest idea for a games console. :s
#15.2 Betaz on 14 May 2005 - 16:32
Unless you want your next gen game console to be the size of your TV, it's genius. If you have every built a PC, you know how much heat they give off. Now look at how much more powerful this console will be than your PC and you will understand it almost being a necessity.

#24 a_witko on 14 May 2005 - 03:59
i think that it is the ugliest thing in the world. no amount of 'skinning' can cover up how ugly that thing is.

It's just like you can't make an ugly chick good looking with a tonne of make-up.

The only reason I won't buy one is because it's friggin ugly.
#25 David24 on 14 May 2005 - 06:48
I don't care about what's on the outside, only what's in the inside.
#26 SecretAgentMan on 14 May 2005 - 07:55
What a beautiful looking console!!! Now we need to see more of the games.
#27 ProxXect on 14 May 2005 - 08:31
I hope they improve that ugly GUI.

That was vomit-worthy hehe. It was so plastic, so Microsoft. It's never a good idea to show the guys behind a project like this. That bald geek should be dragged out back and shot. 'Dragonlady'?

Sorry bout this, just had to do it so I could right-click and download.
#35 arcadefx on 14 May 2005 - 13:22
Nice, this video is far better than the tossed together MTV one.

Cool, a removeable HD, nice, so does that mean it's upgradeable?

Potential Upgrade Path (IMO):
1) Go to the store and pick up a larger sized compatible HD.

2) Put in a Setup/Upgrade CD and my gamer tag settings, game saves, downloaded content are copied to my local WinXP/Media Center box via a local network.

3) Turn off unit

4) Attach the new HD to XBox 360, turn it on and put in an upgrade CD. My backup of gamer tag, game saves and downloaded content are restored onto the new HD.

Hmm..

I like the bit where he says "Make Xbox 360 yours, take it out of our hands" because you can bet they'll put something in the EULA about installing Linux lol
#41 ineedsleep on 15 May 2005 - 04:07
Alright sony, it's your turn now...
#42 MrStaticVoid on 15 May 2005 - 05:35
So who's reversed this video? I'm just curious about all of the backwards music as noted at the end of the video.
#43 Devlin on 17 May 2005 - 00:15
What was so freaking great about this Video, I mean yeah it's cool to learn about the machine but man it was more about the developers tooting their own horn's.

I love the Xbox and I can't wait for the 360 but this was such a waste of time to make. What the heck do we gotta do to get some freaking gameplay footage out of them, I mean the most I have gotten that looks worth it was on gamespot.com
you can see some footage of Ghost Recon 3 which looks "AWSOME" but still you are watching the same 30 sec footage over and over and over again.

you would think by now they would have known it's time to release some
GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE. None of this video sequence crap
