- Played it for 15mins... I have to admit... I expected more. Same engine (???) , Just a beefed up, polished, modern bfv/dc mod. Fun none-the-less.
-
#7.4 Posted by cheesegoduk on 12 Jun 2005 - 13:42
- erm no hes not, your stupid for believing EA's marketing department. They said that BFV was a whole new engine.... it wasn't. Look at the game files and how the game works and you can easily tell its the same engine
-
#7.5 Posted by AethylFilth on 13 Jun 2005 - 18:07
- Often developers will create an engine using the same tried and true methods while taking advantage of new developments.
Unless this is what you think happened in the boardroom:
"OK lets tell them its a new engine, but not make one."
"You think we can get away with that?"
"Of course we can.... unless... UNLESS, the highly respected and educated members of neowin.net discover our fantastic secret."
"Shouldn't we be more afraid of people who actually know what they're talking about? Other developers blowing our story wide open?"
"Hell no, we have everyone paid off, except for the open source guys and no-one listens to them anyway... no, the only risk to our web of lies is the rock-solid community at neowin.. only they hold the power and knowledge, and troll skills, to unravel this genious of digi-fraud."

- Use 3DGamers if you can. I had to keep refreshing for a spot in line but once I got one I downloaded at about 460kb/sec.

BUT WAIT I can pay some other sites to download it... This pisses me off LOL They all say they are first to get exclusives and then you can't becasue of the bureaucraps and silly market systems... AHHHH I WANT THIE GAME NOW!!!! LOL Well that is my rant and ramble about waisted casssshhh.. Gues I will play EQ2.. till my 100kbs download is done...

- umm what the?
You don't actually think everyone here are paying members of gamespot do you? You only need to use the free registration to get it, just sign up, dload the game and forget about gamespot forever. I'm sure IGN registration has some uses, been a number of times i've wanted insider info.

What a truly major disappointment this Demo is.
Just more of the same old, same old.
I am seriously contemplating cancelling my pre-order. Now that sucks.

- why does the installer require you to enter in a company name? I realise you can just put N/A or anything but it's a game...what relevance does that field have, especially when 3/4 of the people who purchase it will probably be kids.
First time I've seen that field as a pre-req for non commercial software.
I just finished dloading, got quite a decent dload speed too. -
#22.1 Posted by cheesegoduk on 11 Jun 2005 - 19:10
- lol, I wondered that as well, usually you can skip past questions like that, but it DEMANDED I entered a company name before I went on

- Well, I doubt anyone will be able to play this game....Login servers have been down since 1am...
Thats what you get when you release a demo to 12 million people, and one login server on a t-1 -
#25.1 Posted by theyarecomingforyou on 11 Jun 2005 - 17:25
- I noticed that, but it's been back up for a while now. Really annoying, though.
-

- It looks fun, but I am getting some serious controller lag every few seconds....the keys will just lock up into what i pressed, so my player will run forward or keep launching nades for 10 seconds before it unfreezes. Until that is resolved, **** it

#29.1 Posted by sin™ on 11 Jun 2005 - 20:12
- Do you by any chance have ZoneAlarm running ? I was experiencing the same, and I found that by shutting down ZA was only way to rid of it. Must be some sort of conflict there somewhere.
-
#29.2 Posted by theyarecomingforyou on 12 Jun 2005 - 00:25
- I have the same problem but absolutely NO Zonealarm.
-
#30 Posted by SirDarkness on 11 Jun 2005 - 18:42
- Got it this morn and I like it so far little laggy at times but smooth other that that. But I did notice it freez for a good 30sec while the computer cached up in the middle of gameplay causing me to crash my JSF. It looks amazing with the lvl of detail it has all the guns look smooth and clean. LOVE the Ragdoll !!! And all BF games won't let you play in 1280x1024 that is kinda strange. Hmm
Oh well gona try Area 51 now.

- Fun, but then again I never played BF1942 or Vietnam really, though I know that this is very very similar. I, too, was expecting more revolution than evolution.
I refused to install those beta drivers, and so there are weird shadows that flicker all over the landscape beneath people, but I'm sure that'll be addressed. It also seems like 'high' texture setting is for people with 256MB on their video card. The points system is well thought out, good organization. I feel really disconnected when I enter a turret/vehicle, since you do that old school 'pop' into and out of those things, instead of the smooth Halo slide where you transition.
Edit: I kind of wish it were slower and more realistic - makes me miss Operation: Flashpoint, the best and ugliest middle distance engagement combat game there probably ever was. -
#31.1 Posted by toadeater on 12 Jun 2005 - 01:41
- Well, only a couple of years 'til OFP 2 is released. But Armed Assault will have join-in-progress multiplayer, so you might get your realistic multiplayer shooter wish sooner than that.

AFAIK Illusion Softworks (Mafia, Hidden & Dangerous) is also still working on a game of this type. -
#31.2 Posted by FightingChance on 12 Jun 2005 - 01:58
- Excellent! I had thought that Bohemia was bought up by the US Army to make simulators for them.
-

#41 Posted by AJCrowley Esq on 13 Jun 2005 - 15:05
- I love it. I was totally unimpressed by 1942, which just felt wrong to me, but this one is fun.
For those complaining about slow downloads, maybe you should check out reget or similar. It has a built in mirror search, so it will turn up 30 sites with the same file pretty quick, and start downloading parts from all over the place. I was downloading at a sustained 550k/sec the same afternoon the demo was posted.
