We've been pretty quiet about Day of Defeat: Source in the last few weeks. But new information and images from DoD: Source will be made available starting next week, as we lead to its release. We've been steadily working away on this project, and we're excited to see what everyone thinks of what we've produced.

In the coming weeks we'll also be releasing a Source revived version of Half-Life 1: Deathmatch. People who already own Half-Life 1: Source will receive this as a free download.

Next Saturday, Valve's CEO and founder, Gabe Newell, will be giving the commencement speech at Southern Methodist University's Guildhall, a university program offering course work in game design. Two groups of students enrolled in the program will be releasing the Source MODs they produced during their term. More information on the games they've built is available on their websites:

is there a way to buy HL1: Source if i already have bought HL2???

You can purchase and download it seperately through Steam. I don't think they sell a retail box version of it by itself though; I haven't seen it anyway.

I wish they would redo Team Fortress Classic in Source too. This is great news, though. I have been waiting for DOD: Source since I bought HL2

there is a mod in the works - Fortress Forever - so there will be some version of TF on Source. Oh, and I remember something about Valve working TF2, but they haven't said anything besides they'll talk more about it soon. I'm guessing it won't be till after the Lost Coast and HL2:aftermath are out.

That Fortress Forever mod looks absolutely amazing - if Valve don't take on those guys then they're making a serious mistake!!

Doesn't impress me as much as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

How can you compare a fan made mod with a high budget professionally made game?
#4.5 SaLiVa on 12 Jun 2005 - 05:32
Why cant you?
Day of Defeat started from low budget. Counter-Strike was a hobby project at start.
Firearms didn't manage to go on the top however. Same goes with Natural Selection...

Yeah I know that, but how can anyone compare Day of Defeat: Source which doesn't have the developing time nor money thrown at it like Quake Wars does? Sure Valve is banking on DOD and did alot with it I'm sure, but iD and Activision along with Splash Damage have a huge budget and tons of talent and time to work with on Quake Wars.

I seriously doubt Valve dropped $10 million + into DOD but then again, who knows.

I'm thinking this is an attempt to grab a few people back from BF 2, cause i know i won't be playing any games on Steam for a while!
#8 AethylFilth on 13 Jun 2005 - 15:25
too bad we have to pay for DOD. I hope it offers more than just a better looking DOD, otherwise its BF2 for me
