QUOTE Does this mean it's on? Probably not at this exact moment, but at this point, we're willing to bet it's not a matter of if an FFVII remake will happen, but when.
YAY!!! YAY!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!! HURRAAHHH!!!!!!

- I'm all for that, but can't Square Enix give FFVIII some love as well? Next to FFVII, that's the best Playstation game to come out.

- Eww...FF is quite possibly the worst RPG series to grace the world with its unwanted presence.
-
#10.1 Posted by SecretAgentMan on 02 Aug 2005 - 12:53
- I wouldn't go quite that far but the series is really average at best now. The last decent Final Fantasy game came out on the original PlayStation.

- Possibly a bit below average. FF has turned the console RPG into a land of mini-games where Square can toy around with inserting other genres for no good reason. The stories themselves are actually pretty good, but the details are executed poorly, which is compounded by rushed, often *******ized translations. Which is really weird, since so many of Square's other, non-FF games are translated with surprising accuracy (Chrono Cross and Legend of Mana anyone?). Tho' that's probably because they aren't Final Fantasy, and thus aren't getting as much attention from the marketing dept.
Used to think games like Suikoden were a refuge from that type of RPG, but GS4 seems to have given in to the mini-game obsession. At least we still have the Tales games. Oh, and DQ8 might surprise us. I dig that they're taking their time with the translation. Not so sure about the voice acting, though.
Edit: Eh? Er, hey, Neowin, I understand censoring the b-word for illegitimate sons, but could you maybe allow the b--ized version through? I've never heard that word used as a personal insult before, and is a fairly common word in journalism criticizing modifications of a creator's work.

- I really hate FF, it's for kids. The whole thing makes me angry, even more angry and violent than playing GTA, It's just like a 3D version of Pokemon went it comes to battles. (I know FF was before that too, but it just reminds me know whenever I play FF)

- then don't play it and this would be great as everything will look so much better and they'll have mroe space and power to add more moves magic summons more everything

- Give us a bloody Chrono sequel...
-
#15.1 Posted by rpgamer on 02 Aug 2005 - 11:28
- Yes! Now theres something id really like to see. Another piece in the Chrono series rather then a remake of an old game. Not that i dont like FF but the Chrono games were just really good and better then some FFs.

#15.2 Posted by Joshie on 02 Aug 2005 - 16:02
- While a third Chrono game probably won't show up any time soon (if ever--the series was quite complete and any new installments would just be a whole new storyline pulling details from the first two games--an excuse to expand a bit on the philosophies therein), there is an amateur retranslation of the original Chrono Trigger happening in emulation land. Totally from scratch, to restore upwards half of the script left out in the original commercial release, and undo much of the censorship imposed by Nintendo of America at the time (while some might think censorship isn't that important when it comes down to the plot, try to understand what it does to character development if everyone is talking in the same two-dimensional G-rated way).
Look up RPGone if you haven't heard of this little project. -

- RPGOne - Chrono Trigger Project
There's the project Joshie mentioned. They did an FFVI (FFIII) one too. And they translate loads of Japanese games too. Great stuff, been waiting for this patch for AGES.

- GIVE US A NON-MMORPG PC GAME AGAIN, DAMMIT! Grrr. FF7/8 were so long ago now.
-
#17 Posted by nav_uno on 02 Aug 2005 - 13:07
- Damn, If that ever comes out, I'll need to at least borrow a PS3. The game was great, but the PS3 is still too expensive for me to shell out the money for it, even if it has such a wonderfull and beautiful game.

One of the highlights of the trailer compilation shown in one of the main theaters on the show floor of the Square Enix Party 2005 is the PlayStation 3 technology demo of the opening sequence of Final Fantasy VII. Ever since the short clip's debut in May during Sony's E3 press conference, there has been talk that the footage shown is evidence that Square Enix intends to release a remake of the FFVII. The talk started up again with renewed interest, as the clip took centerstage during a compilation of trailers shown of upcoming Square Enix games. We took the opportunity to talk to a Square Enix rep for the internal division within the company, whose focus is on the properties relating to Final Fantasy VII, to get the scoop.

The top 10 software titles for the first six months of the year were dominated by PlayStation 2 games. Sony's console had six games in the top 10, including Sony Computer Entertainment's Gran Turismo 4 in the top slot.
Nintendo had the second most games in the top 10. Game Boy Advance games held two positions with Pokemon Emerald at second place and Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap at seventh. The lone GameCube representative was Capcom's Resident Evil 4 in the eighth slot. But that tied Microsoft's entire Xbox contingent, with the tenth-place Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith lingering at the bottom of the list.
The only 2004 game to crack the top 10 was Take-Two Interactive's controversy-laden Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which was released in October. The complete Top 10 consoles games of 2005 can be seen below.
