CEO Leaves Infinium Labs

The company behind the controversial console, the Phantom has announced that CEO Kevin Bachus has left the company and CFO Greg Koler, the European boss has taken over.

He has joined the company in 2003 as president and COO and quickly replaced founder Tim Roberts as CEO. As a former Microsoft employee he brought a lot of industry knowledge to the company as many thought the console really was ‘Phantom’.

Koler is not to be under-estimated though. He is the founder of Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe, but the likelihood of us seeing a console from Infinium Labs is very slim.

Infinium Labs director Richard Angelotti had this to say, "From the perspective of the US and international markets, Mr Koler's extensive corporate experience and practical knowledge of the games industry will be fundamental to our ability to successfully address the challenges we face at this pivotal juncture in our company's evolution. Greg is known and respected by his management peers for his insightful industry views and his clear, concise and candid industry operational commentary,"

Will we ever see the Phantom? Or will it be just that?

They're trying a bit too hard.

Haven't heard anything from this company in ages, thought they'd disappeared silently. Still believe there's as much chance as this console coming out, as there is me summoning a Greater Daemon of Khorne.

I heard that the first title for the Phantom is Duke Nukem: Forever...

When the company had nothing useful or insightful to say, what better way to cover that than with a large mouthful of management rhetoric and lots of big words. Pivotal juncture? What pivotal juncture? Surely that would be when they were actually due to release the console rather than just having an upper level reshuffle!

this pivotal juncture in our company's evolution = liquidation?

The system is/was based around PC hardware circa mid 2004. How is this supposed to even represent a gaming platform now?
#7.2 STanger on 23 Nov 2005 - 02:43
the original xbox had a 733Mhz P3..so what's your point?
#7.3 njlouch on 23 Nov 2005 - 11:09
The Xbox wasn't meant to run standard PC games though was it.

Point made!

Slightly off topic I know but Infinium Labs was run by a known swindler, offering a service that even companies like Microsoft and Sony haven't been able to offer ... who the hell were they fooling? From the get-go it was all obviously a fraud. Remember the time they had a 'phantom' on show? It was a PC in a pretty box, with most of the ports at the back not even connected to anything internally?

Then they had the cheek to sue HardOCP for suggesting the above.

I do wonder who would want to work for Infinium Labs and why, though.
#8.1 Paul on 22 Nov 2005 - 12:50
I suppose for anyone wanting to work there.....Ignorance is bliss
#8.2 Vannos on 22 Nov 2005 - 17:51
XBOX Live is more than anything Infinium Labs could ever come up with.

personally i believed the phantom had as much chance as any competitor, Sega comes to mind when i think phantom, because as far as I know, Sega introduced themselves as a company that made games and made consoles.

although this phantom's storys sound worse and worse and worse everytime i hear about it.

Sorry, how is Infinium like Sega? I am missing the point here.

Infinium don't make games (or hardware for that matter - lol).
#9.2 matt74441 on 22 Nov 2005 - 15:08
Thats actually a good point.

i'm just saying if sega were to be treated like the phantom when they said loong time ago "we are going to make a gaming system" and everybody said "yea right".. would there be sega?

give phantom a chance and sit back and see.. they are trying to enter the market, companys don't make consoles to loose money on purpose. They intend to make money, and by saying the phantom is fake you are stating that the company intends to loose money.

Just wait and see if this console ever comes out, and wait for the official announcement that states that the phantom is not going to be released, as far as we know it will.
#9.4 mko on 23 Nov 2005 - 15:46
except back in the day SEGA and Nintendo basicly invented the home gaming console as we know it. The Phantom is nothing more than a dumbed down computer, its not rocket science. In fact the way consoles are made more like a PC now I find older consoles are much more interesting.
#10 VLR on 22 Nov 2005 - 13:56
Good for them, it shows that they are still alive. I can't wait to have my Phantom and play on it!
#11 ahhell on 22 Nov 2005 - 14:19
I had completely forgotten about this thing. That company has to be a front for the mob or something considering they've been around for years and haven't produced a SINGLE thing.

If they are a legit company, I feel sorry for the investors...they got screwed.
#12 Elite_graphix on 22 Nov 2005 - 14:52
i thought infinium were sued and lost?!?! are they still vapourware or is the so called phantom still in design stages??!

loved their offices

Which basically means this: The company has nothing.
#14 Sqube on 22 Nov 2005 - 16:30
Wow... Infinium Labs still exists?! That's the real shocker here.

I also feel the need to ask: Seeing as they don't have real hardware, and they don't have games... how are they making money? What the hell are they even doing?

This is one of the most well-run business scams ever.
#15 sethrd on 22 Nov 2005 - 18:38
Seriously! I thought they had closed up shop.
#16 Jack31081 on 22 Nov 2005 - 23:27
Huh...I didn't even know Infinium was still around. Hadn't heard anything from them in a long while.

And Sqube, it's only a scam if they're making money, which I doubt.

I don't get the trolling/flaming warning. Are there actual Phantom Phanboys to troll and flame?

Wonder if this comany was simply set up to give a bunch of people jobs without actually doing anything.

Well now, isn't that surpri...

Screw it, it isn't.

Man, I remember reading about the Phantom back in '04 over at Penny-Arcade. I can't belive they're still out there, scaming away.
