It was discovered that Battlefield 2: Deluxe Edition has sprang up on both EBGames.com and GameStop.com. It is uncommon for popular PC games with expansions to be given a "special edition" label.

There's no word on what the package will include (if it indeed exists), and the two sites have different ship dates for the package, March 27 and May 2. A likely candidate for inclusion would be the Battlefield 2: Special Forces expansion that was released last November. Both sites list the Deluxe Edition as selling for $49.99. The original Battlefield 2 is currently selling for $49.99, and the Special Forces expansion has a $29.99 price tag.

The Battlefield franchise is no stranger to bundles and special editions--Battlefield 1942 Deluxe Edition included 1942 and the Road to Rome expansion; the World War II Anthology included 1942 and two expansion packs; and The Complete Collection contained all the 1942 and Vietnam expansions.

Vietnam wasn't an expansion, It was its own game.

And in my opinion, it was a damn fine game.

bf2 is a piece. when bf2 has the quality o rplayability of desert combat mod for 1942, maybe it'll be time to releas these bull**** packages.

bf2 was teh biggest waste of 50$ in a few years.

I think EA is destroying BF2 with these expansions that don't work with the core game. SF wasn't even any good, there are like 300 mostly empty SF servers, compared to 4000+ BF2 servers. The new packs that are coming out will have even fewer buyers because they're not being sold retail.

EA is trying to get as much $$$ from players as possible, but if they want to genuinely improve the game, they should stick to the core game instead of these unpopular expansions no one really asked for. How about putting new maps into the core game, EA?

I hated DC. Everything about it felt totally wrong.

how do planes that fly like toilet paper rolls and helicopters that fly like kleenex feel right?
how does being able to fly these things with a mouse easier than a j-stick feel right?

nevermind the worst hitboxing ever, and endless exploits, bug after bug afte bug, and an incredible lack of content.

yes, a free mod called desert combat has more maps, more vehicles and more variety in weapons than the pile of turd called bf2.

I've flown real flight sims my entire life, and believe me, BF2 feels far closer than DC ever got.

It's a shame you think you wasted money. Almost a million ranked players seem to disagree

You'll find most players stick mainly to ground combat. Why is Karkand, a map that has no aircraft, the most popular BF2 map?

I also like how aircraft in BF2 can withstand a 120mm tank round. An Mi-8 surving a hit from an Abrams, that's soooooo realistic.

Toadeater now that is a comment I'll totally agree with. The damage inflicted both by, and on, aircraft is totally askew. Small arms fire has been known to bring down Apaches IRL, yet in SF they take the most insane pounding. Helicopters are very fragile beasts, BF2 doesn't even simulate very basic things like loss of a tail rotor.

Also totally agree with the comment about Karkand, it's without doubt my favorite map, hell there is a 24/7 karkland server. If I want to spend time flying, I do it in a real flight sim. I absolutely despise people who spend entire rounds sat in a tank or helicopter gathering stupidly large scores but not really contributing, and more often than not making the game rather un-enjoyable. Then they call themselfs pilots... I'd love to take them on in Falcon 4 or EECH.

i'll stick to cs... still the most popular and polished fps game on the net...

as for flight sims, i've never played any flight sims that play anything like bf2-- or are easier to fly with a mouse than a j stick...

Where did I say bf2 plays like any real flight sim? I said it's closer than DC ever got.
I didn't actually comment on how acurate the flight models in BF2 are did I.

I've not even contemplated using a mouse to control aircraft in BF2. On the rare occasion that I do fly (when I get the urge, I tend to fire up a real sim), I have a nice HOTAS setup on my desk that I'm rather good at using, regardless of how ****e the FM may be.

This world is just degenerating into one big criticism fest, very few people see the good in things these days.

come on , it's not THAT bad.

i think people w/ hardware issues, other problems, are really missing out on what is a great game (when you're in a good server)

I have BF" and the SF expansion, BF2 rules, but SF is real bad, it feels like they rushed it...

Only gripe i have with bf2 was the fact that i needed 2gigs of ram to get it running without midgame hitches on my rig. But once i invested in those 2gigs it worked flawlessly with amazing graphics, and (finaly) aceptable load times. And those 2gigs made loading in other games wizzz by

I have both BF2 and SF. I really enjoyed BF2 and our clan brought a server for it aswell. Then came SF and it was rubbish. The unlocks are good... But the maps are rubibish.
I Moved off BF2 completely and play Planetside instead. I'd rather pay for a great game that play a free one.

The maps are rubbish?!?! You *must* be a vehicle wh*re....

And according to the wiki comparison I've seen, the unlocks really aren't that much better.

Well I love bf2 and SF... its the only game that I play on a daily basis.

The only thing that sucked in SF was the NightVision related stuff (maps and the googles), but the other maps are really nice (warlord is a great map IMO), and the hook/zipline really give me the impression im allowed to go anywhere! which adds a lot of possible strats to the game.

Well hope the booster packs dont suck and ruin the game or anything...

Totally agree, I'm not into the NV stuff, but the rest is great fun. There are some really really cool city fighting maps which is where BF2 always excelled.

Interesting. One other possible option is that the "deluxe" edition would not include the Special Forces expansion, but rather the "booster packs" which are tentatively due out in Feb and later this year. Since the boosters are currently marketed as only available through EA Downloader, this could be a handy way to start the new BF2 player with all the goodies the early adopters have already upgraded to over time.

Obviously I have no idea if they'd do that, but
$50 (BF2)
+$10 (Euro Force Booster)
+$10 (Armored Fury Booster)
+ maybe even $30 (SF)

...is a pretty pricey investment to get new players started now that the game has been out a while.
