The Xbox 360 isn't really the brand new kid on the block anymore. With more than four months under its belt, you would think that developers now have a pretty solid grasp on how things work. They may not be able to squeeze every ounce of power out of those three cores just yet, but things like smooth, stable game play shouldn't be an issue, should it? With the recent release of Major League Baseball 2k6 by Take 2 Interactive, many gamers have been frustrated with the game’s apparent inability to function correctly with hard drive capable 360s. Those without the hard drive seem to be problem-free. Many avid baseball gamers want to know how mistakes like these can slip through the cracks. Where was the testing? Where was the quality control? This is after gamers waited through three delays, which were supposedly for “quality control”. In the past, Microsoft has even made it a point to say that the Live system is not a "get out of sloppy coding free" card. These types of mistakes, while perhaps not devastating, can be very frustrating for people who now have to shell out upwards of $60 per game. In the future, one can only hope that either developers or Microsoft will step up their quality control, and that unfortunate situations like this can be avoided.

The MLB 2k6 release has been a disaster. The Xbox version is buggy as hell and the 360 version apparently crashes a few innings into every game. I really wonder what it was like before the 3 delays.

All three versions are terrible.

Minus the crashing when a hard drive is present supposedly the 360 version is the best of the three when it comes to bugs. But the hard drive bug is a pretty massive one, considering it's the only way people should be using their 360 - with games in the future going to require one anyway.

I have the NHL and nba games from take 2 on the PS2 and they were really friggin buggy. The ps2 would just freeze when loading a profile which is in about the first half of the first year in franchise mode. Thank god I picked madden for my nfl game, I've heard the take 2 counterpart is really buggy as well.

One thing that really strikes me is how the reviewers of these games, (x-play, gamespot and sites like that) they don't report these bugs in their reviews, and they rate them higher then their EA counterparts, and people like me were lured into this trap, paying for really buggy games.

Reading the comments above I wonder why the submitter chose to focus on the XBox360 when apparently all the systems get a crappy product. The focus should be on the company Take2.

Agreed... though, to be fair, I cannot fathom how Microsoft thought making the harddrive an optional accessory could possibly make things better. Having a built-in storage medium for downloads, saves, and caching really MADE the first Xbox the system it was.

This, of course, is a related, albiet slimly, issue to the article in question.

pretty messed up?

mine works perfectly maybe you just don't know what you're talking about. it's ok though, it happens. the internet can make you stupid.

it's the PS3 that may have problems. espically since they are still having design problems and the system debuts later this year.

it's not the 360 thats messed. i've had 2 games that freeze, pgr3 and mlb2k6, and in both cases, it was the game maker that is at fault. stop throwing your FUD around. and hoping that the ps3 will have no problems is just foolish. all systems have problems. from NES to ps2. you can't avoid it.

I have Madden 2k6 freeze issues. It's really intermittent. You can play 4 or 5 franchise mode games no problem and then suddenly you try to play the same game over and over and it freezes like crazy. It's weird b/c the disc abruptly stops spinning and the display freezes, then 30 seconds later it shows a "disc cannot be read" message. It only does it on Madden though so I suspect software not hardware.

deron, i had the exact same problem with madden. i thought it was just my disc though, since i got mine from gamefly.
