Like a particularly devastating "summon" spell, Square Enix bombarded North American retailers last week with 1.5 million copies of Final Fantasy XII. The publisher announced today that the mass shipment represents the largest day-one North American availability of any game in the publisher's history.

Final Fantasy XII set that record due in part to another Square Enix milestone. While it was far from the first Final Fantasy game Square Enix has released, Final Fantasy XII was the first time the publisher had ever set a concrete street date for one of its North American product launches. While all of the company's previous games shipped out on a certain date and gradually went on sale as the games arrived at different retailers over the course of a few days, Square Enix made sure all of its retail partners received their copies of Final Fantasy XII early and held onto them until the official October 31 release date.

Will they do a PC port of it, or is it console-only?

All Final Fantasy games (I - XIII) have been console only, except VII, VIII and XI which was on PC too. So, best assumption is console exclusive.

This game is absolutely amazing. It has definitely evolved the RPG genre.

If you haven't played it yet, go and do so. Now.

It is by FAR the best and most innovative Final Fantasy game.

VIII, VIII, X, X-2 all disappointed me personally and I saw nothing but a decline for the series (the other series' are flourishing though). This has redeemed Final Fantasy for me.

The battle system is just PERFECT. It's not as hectic as a Tales game, but it has the same enjoyment, and it has the same micromanagement (plus a LOT more with Gambits) that Final Fantasy is known for.

game looks to be pretty epic, but i'd give it 6 months before you can easily find it for 20 bux. once ps3 comes out and all the marketing and advertising will be for the ps3 hardware and software. that'll be when i pick it up

Meh, I disliked the post-9 games.
10 sucked for me, didn't like talking, didn't like the overall theme, didn't like all the new technology really. As for this new battle system, I doubt I'll like it, I'll always love the classic battle style.
FF7&8 forever

I haven't liked a Final Fantasy since VI, but this one is really a big deal. You're missing on a lot; the new battle system is incredible.
