Electronic Arts Inc., today announced that Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (C&C 3) is in development for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system. C&C 3 boasts an intuitive console-specific control scheme, fast-action strategy gameplay, deep single player campaign, and an immersive multiplayer experience featuring massive battles where you take control of large armies on the battlefield of the future.

"The Command & Conquer series finally makes its return to the console after seven years," said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EALA. "C&C 3 will help expand the RTS genre on the Xbox 360, building off of the foundation laid by the development of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II. EA is evolving the console controls so that strategy gaming plays and feels native to the platform."

"C&C 3 is a perfect fit for the Xbox 360," said Mike Glosecki, Senior Producer at EALA. "Xbox 360 players will enjoy the action-packed online play and watching the epic Sci-Fi story of the game unfold as they play through the single player campaign."

The year is 2047 and the stakes could not be higher. Tiberium—a self-replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth—is spreading like a radioactive ice age. The Global Defense Initiative, a high-tech alliance of the world's most advanced nations, is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane, the megalomaniacal leader of The Brotherhood of Nod has other plans for Earth. Kane's secret society turned superpower is bent on using Tiberium to take control and transform humanity into his twisted vision of the future. All-out war rages over Tiberium and the fate of the planet rests in the balance.

Not so bad. Slap a USB keyboard and mouse into the 360, and it's perfectly feasible.

I prefer sitting on the sofa with my 360 and a nice sized TV than cowering over a keyboard in my office and playing infront of a 19" monitor.

Good point, I have one question for you all, do i buy a 360, ps3 or a Wii? I'm a pc gamer of sorts, i have a PS2. (dont play it much) Am a fan of FPS (quake unreal etc) and some RTS (CC Red Alert). Suggestions?
#3.1 vetLOC on 16 Nov 2006 - 19:02
I would definetly go with a 360 for now. I can't recommend the PS3 because of the price, but the games and stuff for the PS3 look awesome. I mean come on, a sequel to Warhawk!?

But with that being said, go with a 360. Gears of War, Huxley (also on PC) tons of FPS's and decent ones at that, plus Live! is supposedly pretty neat. I don't have a 360 yet, but trust me I will get one eventually. But I'll also get a PS3, and a Wii, so ehhhh don't listen to me.

I'm definitely buying for PC. Although, if I had a mouse and keyboard for the Xbox 360, I can see myself having fun playing the console version...

Bah, someone release a keyboard and mouse for the consoles already.

Uhhh...USB?

You guys dont see the implications of this.... the game will be less complicated for the PC its gonna be a dumbified game for console freaks
#7.1 Kushan on 17 Nov 2006 - 00:28
And you know this how?
The previous C&C games that were ported to consoles had no effect on their PC counterparts.

Because they were made to PC by Westwood and then ported to consoles, now they are made by EA and are ported to the PC perhaps if you remember... the console ports of previous games were rubbish
#7.3 Kushan on 18 Nov 2006 - 11:39
Yes, the console ports may have been sucky, but did they affect their PC counterparts?
#8 Blackice on 17 Nov 2006 - 00:54
This has to come to the PS3. I love(d) C&C, yet I also love Metal Gear Solid. I'd love to be able to play them both on a PS3. Although of course, since the engine is already ported to the 360 from LOTR, the PS3 version (if there ever is one) may take some time.

That is, once the price comes down a bit.

May I ask if this means that C&C 3 will only be available to consoles, or there will be both console & PC versions?
#9.1 Twisted Chaz on 17 Nov 2006 - 03:39
Both version.
I'm guessing PC release first, then a 360 release.

And who knows, with Microsoft's new plan we might be seeing PC Vs 360 action! That would be awesome, playing C&C across platforms.
#9.2 HawkMan on 17 Nov 2006 - 06:38
Except this is EA, wich try to avoid using the Live! system as much as possible.

and since the console version will use a completeley different control scheme, the game may be different as well.
#10 Croquant on 17 Nov 2006 - 05:18
There's still plenty of good PC games being made, just not by EA.
#11 +Xerxes on 17 Nov 2006 - 06:46
I got no problem with it, as long as it is developed as a PC game first then ported to Console...if they make it for Console first and port it to PC then I won't be happy.
(1 reply) #12 CrimsonBlur on 17 Nov 2006 - 11:15
Porting games from PC <-> XBOX 360 is relatively trivial, so I wouldn't worry about that process too much. Microsoft's development tools are fantastic, and as long as a company sticks to their platforms (Windows, XBOX) it won't be a problem. Cross-platform development is really only hurt by games that have to run on different consoles.

I'm glad this game is coming out for the 360! My PC is getting old and I see no reason to upgrade it when my 360 can play games with 10x better graphics. I used to be a pretty serious PC gamer but now I prefer console gaming.
#12.1 +Smigit on 18 Nov 2006 - 09:26
The problem isnt the difficulty in porting. Even if thats hard it doesnt effect consumers. What the people above are worried about is how it will change gameplay. Many times when a game appears on a console and the PC the PC version has "console like" elements. Take for example Oblivion and its inventory system. THe extremly large icons compared to moth other rpg's such as Diable, NWN ect could be likened to one such "console like" element.
#13 Manson_AAN on 17 Nov 2006 - 11:52
they should make this game on a Wii instead!!
#14 Starboykb on 17 Nov 2006 - 13:45
CURSE the consoles for STEALING the PC spirits!!
(1 reply) #15 daveoc64 on 17 Nov 2006 - 17:25
Has anyone here played Battle for Middle-earth II on the Xbox 360? The control scheme worked well and EA has said it was pretty much a public beta test for the interface they wanted to use on an Xbox version of C&C3.

Seeing as XNA allows games to be developed side by side on the PC and Xbox 360, I'd imagine that is how EA will do it.
#15.1 +Smigit on 18 Nov 2006 - 11:58
exactly. RPG's dont necessarily need a mouse or often even alot of buttons besides for shortcuts. I can see having two joysticks as being quite a usefull tool to do alot of things with.

Spot on. I know console gaming is where all the money lies, but how can anybody say that a console is a perfect fit for an RTS!? That's just crazy. I'm angry and if this new C&C game isn't going to be made with the top-end graphics capabilities that the modern home PC can run, I will go ape-s**t.

Always always always develope it for the PC, then convert to console. NEVER the other way round.
#17 xxdesmus on 19 Nov 2006 - 18:33
I can't imagine the controls for the 360 being any good for a game like this ... I guess I could be wrong.
#18 Sniper101 on 20 Nov 2006 - 17:36
wtf noooo not console, thats gay C&C is for PC its like playing Bf2 for pc then playing it on the ps2, you can't do it lol
#19 toadeater on 20 Nov 2006 - 20:57
Console controls suck for two things:

1st person shooters
RTSes

Besides, this C&C franchise is not even close to cutting edge anymore as it used to be. There are other RTSes doing much more interesting things instead of rehashing the same ancient gameplay.

#21 kenotz on 26 Nov 2006 - 21:51
how about C&C Generals? any continuation after the Zero Hour?
#22 TheGrizah on 27 Nov 2006 - 16:27
Yeah...but will the cross development hurt the game as it has with so many other PC games...Deus Ex Invisible War comes to mind.
