Gears of War Sees 80% Jump in Xbox Live Usage

Not only has Gears of War become the undisputed king of the 360 at the moment breaking numerous records, but it has also been a key factor in an increased usage of Xbox Live. Other releases that shipped alongside Gears of War would have also contributed to the big spike in usage, these included Call of Duty 3, Tony Hawk's Project 8, and Viva Pinata.

Sandvine Incorporated, a network traffic monitoring company released the report. Gears of War has really done a fantastic job of reigniting any waning interest in the 360, especially when all the talk should have been about the PS3 and Wii. It seems that the 360 has a lot of life in it yet, especially with Bungie taking every possible opportunity to tell us something about Halo 3.

This is the most retarded comment ever, "It seems that the 360 has a lot of life in it yet."

No really, barely a year into it's cycle and it still has a lot of life? Well, I hope so otherwise M$ sure flopped; Dreamcast wasn't even "dead" after 13 months.

BTW - Was Gears slated to purposefully come out around PS3/Wii all along because it definitely DOES divert interest. I know people that wanted the PS3 and instead opted to get X360 because of Gears. I'm assuming this was M$'s intent, but I hadn't even heard of Gears until shortly before it came out, you hear about other "killer apps" way before they're out often; maybe I just fell asleep..

EDIT: Read my comments below before you fly off the handle and think I'm dissing Xbox at all. It's my console of choice, and I am a huge fan of Gears; I was just surprised with the seemingly lack of notice (to me) about it's major killer app status. Sure it was announced, but we knew a game like Halo was a killer app pretty immediately, Gears is right on par with Halo and it did it out of relative obscurity.

I remember hearing about Gears of War early this year before I picked up my 360 in April.

Now, I'm not sure if the release date was coordinated with the PS3/Wii launch. I think that is a coincidence. Although I do know that they've been working on it up until the release. It isn't like they had it ready to ship back in the summer months and decided to wait till Wii/PS3 launch to release.

I think sales would have been better if it was released last summer, back when they had the whole next gen market to themselves.

My word, you are just soo cool to be refering to Microsoft as M$. If you hadn't noticed dimwit, Microsoft is out to maximise its profits (as would you in the same situation.)

So what if Microsoft brought out Gears of War at the same time as the PS3/Wii launch period. It is called clever/good marketing. Live with it, or slit your wrists and leave this world to the rest of us.

Wow, I guess you construe "M$" as me being a Microsoft hater.

I never said that M$ wasn't in it to maximize profits or that they shouldn't be. I'm just surprised that Gears is the killer app that it is. For me, it sort of burst onto the scene very quickly. For instance, it's been played that Sony would launch GTA at the same time as 'other' launches so as to save their killer app for an opportune time. Gears ended up being a major killer app and a major reason of why NOT to get a PS3/Wii.

It's a good thing for Microsoft. Don't worry your little fanboy head off; M$ is my console maker of choice, and I have no plans on getting a PS3 (or Wii) until they're very proven, if at all.

*Whew*

P.S. I thought it was pretty clear that I was DEFENDING Microsoft when I said the remark that they still have plenty of life left was retarded; if anyone thought X360 was somehow dead before Gears is a supreme moron. I guess fanboys see the term "M$" and think "HATER! DIE!" I'll go slit my wrists now because fanboys think my favorite console is somehow my hatred in life.

Wonderful, but I didn't "diss" Microsoft at all in my comment. You just saw "M$" and didn't like it (or like the idiot above, flamed).

I can say "M$ is the best company in the world" ...would that be hating because I used M$?

Who cares how I refer to the freaking company.

Everybody doesn't need to sit around scanning for fanboy comments. X360 is my favorite console, but I'm far from a fanboy for it, and my remarks were far from derogatory.

do 15 year olds not know how to read?

M$ is not necessarily a derogatory term, kay?

You know, kind of like people saying things are "sick" or "stupid" or how rappers say the "N-word" and it's okay. I'm just flipping around a negative connotation (M$ and ignoring the dumbass stigma attached to it.
