Upset that Xbox 360 users have Test Drive Unlimited already? Upset that PC users have to wait months after the 360 version is released to play it? Well be upset no longer, as Atari brings the Test Drive Unlimited beta to Fileplanet! This is a subscriber only beta (for now, as usual) and be prepared this is an absolutely HUGE file to download - if you get in the beta that is. The installer is 3.5 GB in size, I'm not kidding.

The game, for those of you who don't know, is a free roaming racing game. And by free roaming - I mean you have about 1,000 miles to race on Hawaiian roads. Cars from companies such as Audi, Mustang and Lamborghini are represented among many others. There are about 120 cars in the game, so I'm sure you will find one to suit you. You can "pick up" and play against anyone at pretty much anytime. You just drive around the island, and can turn any stretch of road into a race with someone else. Of course as you win races and get money you can buy upgrades and all that good stuff we are used to. More or less Test Drive Unlimited is a MMOCG (massively multiplayer car game) but without the insane gnoll grinding!

So head on over to Fileplanet and sign up for the beta, and hopefully you will get accepted and enjoy yourself on the big road!

Is there a (legal) way to do this without having to pay money to sign up with FilePlanet?

yea... when you go to their site it says "Just create a fileplanet FREE account" and then after you create it says oh btw you need to pay.. bastards, that's misleading information

Not really, not when I made it clear in the post you have to be a paid subscriber to join up. Remember, there is a difference between being a Fileplanet "member" and a "subscriber". One is free the other is not

But don't worry, they will open the beta up like they do on all of them down the line.

any1 know if the game requires sm2 or sm3+?

I just finished playing the game. I cannot say too much because of the NDA except that it is frigging sweet and is pretty much unlike any other racing game I have played. IMO it is the flight simulator of racing!

does the game need sm2 or sm3 to play?

FilePlanet always was misleading, not the poster of the news...
and to this day i still don't like and won't use any GameSpy/IGN products...

As for the Atari's game-it's awesome, i know it with out even playing it, screenshots and plot is enough...

Here is my guess:
Atari decided to go with Gamespy/IGN because they were provided with bunch BS PR-"we have the largest beta testing community, also look how many subscribers we have..."
Atari didn't want kids to play beta... they wanted 18+[or may be even 21+] crowd beta testers...
You pay GameSpy/IGN for the subscription so they can show your age to Atari
win-win situation for both IGN and Atari
although i might be wrong with my guess, i would rather pay money directly to Atari for beta testing rather than to GameSpy/IGN...
