Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty to 1 Year

Feeling it should match what Sony and Nintendo offer, Microsoft extended the Xbox 360's warranty from 90 days to one year in the United States and Canada. Anyone who bought an Xbox 360 in the two neighboring countries and paid for repairs will receive a check sometime after they are sent out (beginning 10 weeks from now). This move by Microsoft is also thanks to an online petition, with 3382 signatures as of Friday, seeking the warranty extension. Jeff Bell, marketing vice president at Microsoft, reminded Xbox 360 users that "customer satisfaction is a central focus and priority for the Xbox 360 system."

"very nice"? matching the competition after complaints isn't very nice nor is it beating the competition or setting them apart.

a superior warranty deal would have been nicer.

In the EU, it's at least one year as standard (I think it might be 3 years even, I'm not sure) so this is nothing special. Makes me wonder what the difference between the 360's in the US and the ones in the EU were if they were only able to offer 90days warranty in the US. I mean, SURELY it wasn't a cost-cutting manoeuvre....surely

The 360's are the exact same. What's different is the laws in each country. Australia and I'm guessing the EU likely enforce an acceptable warranty period which is most likely one year. In the US though companies are able to get away with 3 months. This hasnt stopped EU or AUS machines breaking down, it just means they are covered when that does happen.

Also dont forget that MS had already extended the warranty to 12 months for anyone in the US who bought in 2005 so any quality issues with the early batches had been attempted to be addressed. I guess they went to 12 months accross the board to better their image since the 360 is somewhat infamous for it's early issues. That and the fact that now the Xbox is alot less problematic it's probably cheaper for them to offer the 12 months now. Anyone that bought early last year when the issues were really BIG issues are about to leave warranty in the next few months.

is cheque spelt check in america? or do you mean check in the standard sense... i am presuming the 'check' is of monetary value that is transacted at a bank with the signed permission of the owner of the bank account that the money is coming out of... i'm rambling grrrrr

check in the monetary term. I always grin when I see French-influence spelled words such as cheque or theatre. If theatre was pronounced phonetically it might be thee-uh-tray

The USA tried sooo hard to change English into American English:
- Cheque > Check
- Centre > Center
- Colour > Color
- and etc....

I think I'll just keep my correct Brittish English. The funniest thing is that America actually chose to follow the french when the decided to drive on the right side of the road. Talk about extremeties.

Just 90 days? I think if I bought a 360 in Spain I would get a 1, if not 2, years of warranty. I think it is by law.

Here in the U.S. the laws are designed to benifit the corporations and to screw the comsumer.
