It looked uncertain there for a minute, but Microsoft confirmed today that they had sold 10.4 million 360 consoles. Bill Gates revealed the tremendous figure at CES. Microsoft had been predicting 10 million sold units since last year and would have looked very red faced if the figure was not reached.

"We're setting records every step of the way for a console at this stage of its lifecycle," declared Robbie Bach. Bach also went on to say that by the end of 2007 300 titles would be available for the 360. Speaking about the biggest franchise currently on the 360, Gears of War, Bach stated that it had sold 2.7 million copies, making it a “Halo like franchise”.

It has been an impressive year for Microsoft winning over all types of gamers, and even selling a few consoles in Japan, thanks to a Blue Dragon. 2007 should be an interesting year for game consoles.

Wasn't that to retailers or was it to customers?

Microsoft starts counting sales once they hit the retail channel, Sony starts counting sales once they leave the factory... we're about to hit the 12 million mark in unit production...
