Media Create Co. has compiled a set of data from around 3,000 shops across Japan, extrapolated that into national sales estimates for the week ending January 14 and published figures this Friday. Overall the entire market for the next-gen consoles (PS3, Wii and Xbox 360) was poor this week, with total sales hitting an estimated 128,274 units.
The PlayStation 3 had sales at 25,531 units, the worst week since its launch in Japan. The Nintendo Wii had sales estimates at 93,708 units, the second-worst week of sales since the 85,439 units sold during the week immediately after it's launch. Bringing up the rear, sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 totaled 9,035 units.
In the software ranking, Nintendo's "Wii Sports," which isn't bundled with the console in Japan, hit the No. 1 position with estimated sales of 61,399 units. The highest ranking PlayStation 3 game was "Resistance: Fall of Man" at No. 40. No Xbox 360 games appeared in the top 50.

Once again, why single out the PS3 for topic ? I know Neowin is pro-Xbox but geez.. all the PS3 bashing gets annoying after a while.
9k 360's is good for MS in Japan, and you can't say 93k Wii's is anything bad, but 25k PS3's is godawful considering they're supposed to dominate Japan.

Once again, why is the PS3 fan the first one to start the argument?
I see nothing about this article that bashes any system. It's proof that the PS3 isn't selling very well ANYWHERE.

And if you had bothered to read the source you would notice it is not Neowin who made the topic. So zip it.
Well it seems their ego finally caught up with them and slapped them in the face (really hard it seems). This news post is just the proof of that.
THATS why everyone is bagging Sony.
Really, most people hear a little bit and thing, "that looks cool" and go to the store and buy whatever's there. Neowinians and other netophiles are still a relatively rare breed, MySpace uers aside, of course.
Anyway, I have a feeling that in the case of the Wii doing poorly the week after launch was just because supply was essentially out because they were all gone in the first week.
Rather than raw sales analysis, I'd like to see a proportional sales chart comparing number of units accessible to the end consumer and how many are being purchased. It would say more about a system if, let's say, there were 45,000 units available for sale that week and 45,000 of them sold versus a situation where there are 90,000 units available and only 45,000 units sold. If it's selling out (or very close to it) every week, that speaks differently about the demand than raw numbers. Now I didn't say this analysis would be better, but it could be an interesting comparison, especially when compared week after week.
