Halo 2 from Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios will be released on 08/05/2007 exclusively on Windows Vista - over a year after it was announced for PC, and two and a half years after it was released on XBOX. UK Gamers: Amazon UK has a pre-order date of 30/05/2007.

The highly anticipated title brings Master Chief to Windows Vista and is the first title to incorporate the new Games for Windows — LIVE service. Windows Vista gamers will be able to challenge each other in PC-to-PC multiplayer matches and earn achievements for the first time in the “Halo” franchise, as well as communicate via voice or text with other Xbox LIVE or Games for Windows — LIVE members. The visually enhanced classic includes an all-new Map Editor, which will allow for new content and greater game customization. “Halo 2” will be playable with mouse and keyboard or the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.

Awww, no PC vs XBox battles... would be fun to finally be able to PROVE to my console friends the true power of the keyboard and mouse over the controller.

Although it does not directly say it, you can play against other Xbox Live Halo 2 players.

It doesn't support PC-to-Xbox, just PC-to-PC over Windows LIVE.

American military gets it Even though I'm not in the military anymore, I still put the day first...it just makes sense when you get used to it. The first thing you want to know is what day it is, because the month and the year are easy enough to figure out.

Go f--k yourself.

I'm utterly sick of these degrading comments. Take your pointless judgmental trolling elsewhere.

so to play online will you have to pay?
#5.1 vetLOC on 15 Mar 2007 - 05:31
No, to get multiplayer achievements you will have to have Gold, you can play normal PC-centric multiplayer wise with Silver, gold gets you dedicated MS servers, and the MP achievements.

I will be posting a story on Windows Live! launching in a few minutes that will explain things in greater details - now that I can post some news again.

Well, if I ever get a good enough PC to run it, I'll be sorted. I've already got a gold account, and I can't wait to see what the achievements will be.

Even if I'm mad at MS for putting this only to Vista and 2 and half year after the initial release, I will buy it I guess... >_<
#7 Sniper101 on 15 Mar 2007 - 07:17
Finally... iv been waiting for this to happen for ages shame its taken this long to come out and yet most PC Gamers are still on XP lol :p o well i guess there's another reason why MS is trying to push Windows Vista
#8 AssassiN-X on 15 Mar 2007 - 07:38
FYI the UK release is actually the 18th May. Quite why we have to wait an extra 10 days i dont know.

Finally! I loved HaloPC, and I will be sure to pick up Halo2PC. I'm just confused about the whole LIVE thing though.

Nice marketing plan, Microsoft. Make the suckers buy a two-year-old game as incentive to buy a new Windows machine.

Err... is anyone going to change the date to be Amero-centric instead of Euro-centric?
#11.1 vetLOC on 15 Mar 2007 - 15:53
No why?

I'm American and I understood the date just fine. The rest of the world uses that as well, so why change it?

Because the game and Microsoft is a american company.

So the fact that the article is from Europe has nothing to do with it? And Neowin is actually European based? And the rest of the world either goes smallest to largest unit or vice versa?

As a side note though, it's us Brits to blame for this. When some of us set sail for the new land, Britain was actually using the now American date style. We changed back when we realised that was stupid.

Looking forward to it!
#14 jstillion on 17 Mar 2007 - 05:38
Not sure how this is going to go over.

With the current state of Vista, drivers and being the first DX 10 game, this can be be one of the games that you pick up cheap 6-12 months latter after your on your 2nd Vista pc (the one built for vista & future gaming) than can run it correctly.

Also not sure that people will want to pay for Xbox Gold subscription on the pc (Silver will still be free).
#15 Glen on 20 Mar 2007 - 23:53
Sweet... I loved the first Halo and didn't want to spend the cash on a 360 to play the next installment. I guess it's supposed to be a bit different from the XBox version though.
