According to official information posted on the PlayStation Korea website, the territory will be getting an 80GB hard drive inside the PS3 when it launches June 16. Neither the 20 GB nor the 60 GB PS3 consoles will be available in South Korea. Aside from the 80 GB hard drive, the hardware of the Korea-bound PS3 is identical the European model – which also means software-based, instead of hardware-based, backwards compatibility. A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe noted “the chassis of the 80GB Korean PlayStation 3 is identical to the chassis of the European version. The only exception is the larger hard drive. At this moment in time, there are no plans to introduce the 80GB version of PlayStation 3 in Europe.” Sony Computer Entertainment America has yet to provide comment on the 80 GB PlayStation 3 announcement.

The 60GB HDD was discontinued by the OEM and the 80GB is now shipping in its place.
This has led to speculation that a 80GB version would be released in North America this holiday season. This rumor started a couple *months* ago because it was widely known then the 60GB OEM was discontinued.
(Don't flame me, I'm South Korean...)
But i guess all the NON-PS3 owners are gonna bitch about it.
- it would require some cable work to get 3,5" working but after that you could attach a 750GB if you wanted
The only thing that annoys me is the South Koreans get the 80Gb PS3 far cheaper then what we get charged for the 60Gb PS3 here; as in 80Gb PS3 for AUSD$680 (what the South Koreans will be paying) compared to 60Gb PS3 for AUSD$999 (what we have to pay) doesn't seem fair to me...
i'm sure that really makes the public want to get a PS3 more than ever now. people will jump at the chance to buy something that may be discontinued at any moment or lack features compared to a different version of the same product.
i wonder how Sony took the news that the GameBoy Advance was outselling the PS3.
uh, what?
i'm pretty sure there are only two versions of the 360 hardware. the original design from 2005, and the newer one with HDMI from 2007 (they released new hardware OVER A YEAR after release).
in the first 6 months, the PlayStation 3 has had 4 confirmed hardware versions and a confirmed discontinuation of at least one of those.
the "Core" and "Premium" Xbox360 system hardware are identical.
