Like a syndicated weekly dance program from the decade it touts so highly, Activision's Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s is Solid Gold. Actually, the publisher today just announced that the game has "gone gold," saying development on the PlayStation 2 exclusive has finished and it should be on shelves July 24.
The publisher also released the last batch of the game's 30 songs, and as expected, Activision has secured the rights to use the original recordings of some popular songs by the original artists. The game's full setlist is reproduced below.
Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80s is rated T for Teen and will be the last game in the series from original developers Harmonix. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater developer Neversoft is taking over the franchise beginning with Guitar Hero III, while Harmonix is preparing rival rhythm game Rock Band. Both titles are set for release later this year for multiple platforms.

Oh WTF are you going on about! For your information, I am quite the audiophile myself. My collection of nearly 2000 songs spannig from 1981 to 2007 speaks for itself.

I've heard of more than half of them and i was born in the late 80's, and grew up on 90's music.

No it doesn't. I honestly think the amount of music you said is a lie. If you had 2,000 songs spanning from 1981 to 2007 you would know of all these bands.
If you honestly consider this setlist a B-Sides collection of music then you don't know anything about music from the time period. Are those 2,000 songs remixes of Metallica music? They're are other groups from the 80's besides Metallica, you know?

No, they are not Metallica remixes. Remixes simply suck. Period.
FYI, I have quite a few bands from the 80s in my collection: Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, Soundgarden, The Police. Hey, at least it's more than the 90s.

2000 songs? From just 81 to 2007? And you call yourself an audiophile?
I have worked in a music production house. What Am I then? Django Reinhardt? Oh wait, you dont know him but I am sure you are going to google about him.

Rich....?
If some one had been buying CD's for 20 years... that's 2 a week. I would call that person a "music fan" with an average job.
Possibly another reason I criticised the setlist was because of my preferences in music. I have 1,975 songs totalling a time of 133 hours, and the majority of them are Alternative (31.5 hours). Then second is Hard Rock (24.7 hours), then Heavy Metal (7.7 hours), then Nu Metal (7.3 hours). I think you see the point. I'm not completely into people screaming their lungs out with people playing awesome guitar solos. I prefer a slowed down (not too much, though) song with a great lead singer, catchy riffs, and a top notch chorus. So Hoobastank, Audioslave, Linkin Park (2007), Foo Fighters, and Lostprophets are some of my favourites.
I'll probably be getting GHIII, though. I might be getting Rock Band as well. If it has a good soundtrack, I'm there.

So on average 76 songs per year? Thats VERY few songs to have to represent one year's worth of music, especially when you consider all the various genres.
Also: audiophile - a term often used to refer to someone who is interested in sound reproduction quality - not an avid music collector.
Sorry, but most of those songs on the list are by known 80's bands, and many are major 80's rock songs. Just because you haven't heard of them, doesn't relegate them to B-side class.
Personally - I love the lineup
-Rich-
and Dead Kennedys
nice list im happy about it.
No metallica was expected though. so I cant say im too upset
So them not being in this = "who cares?"
It's like saying the game doesn't contain "Dogs Barking Jingle Bells" or "Sounds of Flushing Toilets". As much as I love animals making music and the sounds of a flushing toilet, I can live without it.
Metallica is a bastard of a band that hates their fans as well (but loves their money).
I'd pay extra for this game if I knew that for every $1 I spent, someone would throw a rock at a member of Metallica.
This is like Guitar Hero 80s: B-Side Edition.
agreed. You must be music ignorant if you don't know these songs or bands
Enough said
Don't worry. This isn't GHIII. This is a one-off special exclusive to the PS2. It's also gonna be the last GH game made by Harmonix. GH games will be developed by Neversoft now, including GHIII, and I'm really liking the look of it. Harmonix are currently working with EA to produce a similar GH game called Rock Band, except in that, more than 1 instrument is used. It also includes a microphone, drums, and I think a bass guitar as well.
As for GHIII, the current list of songs are (songs performed by the original artist are in bold):
Activision also confirmed that a Queens of the Stone Age song from their newest album "Era Vulgaris" will be in the game, as well as 2 songs from Velvet Revolver.
As for the bands you (and I) want in the game, Activision says that they are trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin mainly, but they're apparently talking to other bands as well.
I have over 7,000 songs and counting from every genre and year imaginable.
Seriously. That was the worst argument ever.
