Former America Chief Kaz Hirai, now president of SCEI, briefly took the stage at Sony’s E3 press conference to announce a slimmer and lighter PlayStation Portable system to be released in North America in October. The new PSP is 33% lighter and 10% thinner, though the rest of the handheld’s dimensions appear to be the same (button layout and LCD display are unchanged). The battery is touted to be more efficient, although by how much was not detailed. Hirai also said the new PSP would load games faster, presumably with an improved UMD drive.
The most notable change from a functionality standpoint is the addition of video output capabilities to the PSP. The new hardware can output video to an external display, and may also be used for displaying photos and playing games on an external display. A silver-colored PSP will be available alongside the piano-black model. A special Star Wars-themed PSP with an image of Darth Vader printed on the back will be part of the Star Wars pack along with the Star Wars: Battlefront Renegade Squadron game. The second new PSP bundle will include the new hardware, including the silver-colored PSP, the game Daxter, a 1GB memory stick Duo, and a Family Guy Freakin’ Sweet Collection UMD. Both bundles will retail for $199.

as for the DS comment, get a life, the DS does not come anywhere near close to the psp in terms of technology. the DS is for kids the PSP for real gamers
And what the hell is a real gamer?
It depends on what one wants when they get a handheld. I personally prefer a DS but I applaud Sony's attempt for a new PSP and I am rather excited by it even though I won't be getting it.
What a ridiculously shallow comment. It's amazing when the people who consider themselves 'mature' act most like 7 year-olds on the playground.

ok maybe the real gamers bit was a little mean, i apologise to all the real gamers with DS's that got offended, but the TRUTH is and even Nintendo and Sony will vouch for me on this one, the DS was designed and is primarily targeted at Kids, The PSP was designed and is primarily targeted at Adults.
Sorry but it's the truth
It should have been a stand alone dedicated gaming console, and not a mini multimedia centre... that would have drove down the price and gotten designers to focus on games!
The DS is brilliant! Any gamer will tell you it offers so much more in way of gameplay than the psp does! I know it sucks that it has limited multimedia suport, but that is a small sacrifice for a great hand held unit...
i tried the gameboy advance to Nintendo gamecube compatibility.. your not missing too much.
I don't feel that ds/wii connectivity will go that far either..

it all depends on whether Sony lives up to it's promises of what it will deliver (i agree at the moment it is crap) but if they bring in the wing/reverse mirror concept for car games and other things like that i can see it as being extremely popular
I corrected your post. Since you based one almost failure's success on another's total failure.
There are lots of exciting new games for the PSP, and the platform is powerful enough for a handheld to carry on for at least 2 years. The games are pretty lacking right now, with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories being the only two games I've found to be much good (although Tekken looks great, as does Killzone Liberation). But Silent Hill is coming, Final Fantasy is coming, God of War is coming, Gran Turismo is coming, as is a new PSP-accessible store offering PSOne games for download. The platform isn't slowing down.
Sony have admitted that PSP games have been disappointing so far. But now they reckon (God knows how they came up with this) that they can leave the PS3 to the developers for a while, apparently they'll shift their efforts to new PSP games.

thast fine as long as you correct it again once the PS3 takes off, i guarantee it will. believe what you want, thats the beauty of this world we can all have our own opinions

ok fair comment, sorry for calling you a mac lover as you obviously arent
I think gba micro is the coolest system, too bad its dying...
Waste of money in my opinion. Too little to late id say
message to sony- stop worrnying about stopping the hackers, it'sa waste of money , they will keep hacking it again and again and again, make it worthwhile at a reasonable price and people will pay.
I'd have to totally agree with you on this one... Sony is killing this product with their excessive policing of the homebrew community. They just dont want anyone messing with / hacking their system. This just shows their ignorance (arrogance?
Nintendo are not going after the DS homebrew community. This hasnt lead to a decrease in sales, or loss in profits (as seen from DS and software sales). The DS is doing extremely well in spite of homebrew! Homebrew actually really enhances the DS.
They should encourage homebrew, since the PSP is more homebrew friendly than the DS, maybe then more people would buy the PSPs.
Can't say I would invest in the bundle because I'd like a larger memory stick (1GB only?) and don't care for any of the other extras. I would consider purchasing the system though, perhaps if it sold for $150 or so.
<snip> Nevermind what I said I was just rambling again
