Originally slated for release on the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP on July 10, Rockstar Games’ Manhunt 2 was temporarily suspended from release following ESRB rating the game AO (for adults only). Developer Rockstar Games was left with few options since game console companies do not allow AO content on their systems. Along with publisher Take 2 Interactive, Rockstar Games last week announced that it had submitted a modified version of Manhunt 2 to the ESRB, which has now rated the title "M" for Mature for ages 17 and older; Manhunt 2 appears to be on track for a release this Halloween. "Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience. We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games.

How about a PC version with all the original content...

I agree. I liked the first Manhunt but got bored very quickly.

I think it would be illegal for them to release the removed content. Unfortunately.

cuz its optional its not illegal... people make nude patches for the sims... yet i see a G rated game on my stores shelfs... Its like GTA... if its in the game when it comes off the shelf then it gets rated as such... if its added later or by someone else... then its not rated...

^there's a big different between what the buyers make and release as to what the game makers release with the game. Your claim doesn't even make sense...

Not if they release an uncut version as AO and offer it online somehow.

The thing is, for some retarded reason they don't allow AO games on consoles.

You know if they released this for PC they would be able to keep the AO rating, I hate that companies are only making for the stupid consoles. CONSOLES FTL!!!

nothing they could put in a game would ever be illigal. it sucks that people would somehow look down on Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony for 'allowing' AO games on there console. people have there moral compases so far up there own ass's its depressing. who the hell cares if you CAN buy an AO game for the console your 6 your old son owns? WHO CARES? if you dont want to see that kind of stuff then dont buy it, and dont let your kids play it. i dont see where the issues lie. there would be no shortage of sales if this game was released in its un-edited form. in fact, i think you will see a reduction in sales because its dumbed down.

Actually yes it would, many retailers wouldn't carry an AO rated game, including some of the biggest game retailers in the world like Wal-Mart. It's the equivalent of selling a porn movie.

But they sell the unrated version of Hostel. "Cut a boob, Rated R; Kiss a boob, Rated NC-17"

Any word on whether the ban has been lifted for the UK version?
Quote this comment #8.1 Posted by Nose Nuggets on 28 Aug 2007 - 18:12
i am assuming there is no issue as long as the game falls within the M rating specifications.

Anyone have any word on what exactly they did in order to change it to M? I mean, the game concept is still the same right? Wasn't the whole thing AO because the whole point of the game was to methodically set out to kill people in unusual/creative/gruesome ways? How exactly can you change the root premise of the game? I just don't get it... If all they did was take out some blood graphics or make it so you pushed a button to strangle the victim instead of moving your hands (Wii controls) that seems a little ... I dunno ... besides the point, doesn't it? I mean, it's still just as violent!

I don't get why the AO rating even exists if no games are ever actually released with an AO rating...
