Crysis: 15% more performance with Vista x64

As you can see the claims made by Crytek that the 64-bit version would allow for 10-15% more performance were very accurate. At 1440x900 we saw an 18% rise in performance favouring the 64-bit version while the 1680x1050 resolution also enjoyed an 18% increase in performance. There was even a 16% gain in performance at 1920x1200 which was most impressive. It would appear after all, that running Crysis in 64-bit mode when possible is very worthwhile indeed.

Strange, because here I can see no difference at all when benchmarking in 32bit or 64bit-Mode. Well, ok, maybe 1fps. I guess it only makes sense if you have a 8800GTX or Ultra.

Ive finally found my optimum settings for my setup! Running a quad core at 3ghz, 4gb ram and a 8800gtx on x64 vista. At a res of 1360 i can run it at an average of 38fps with all settings on very high and 2x AA. One thing ive noticed is high resolutions or high AA drops the fps to less than 15 easily. Bearing in mind the demo only utilises 1 core.

No, the demo doesn't only use one core.

And why does it matter that you posted from your ipod touch? That is starting to go off topic, which isn't allowed by the rules.

He just wants to let us know that he's got enough money to buy an over-priced piece of fashion.

well, theres alot of mixed reports regarding usage of cores- some people saying its single other saying dual.
crysis only utilises one of my cores while others sit idle from 0-10%.
i do hope final has full support for quads.

And yet, the world keeps on spinning...

So if technically DirectX9 is faster than DirectX10 (Link), then Windows XP x64 would be hella lot faster than Windows Vista x64!!!
Not Necessearly
Lant - 31 October 2007 - 16:13
If you are talking about the Vista GUI, just so you know - it is rendered using DX9.
Azmodan - 31 October 2007 - 16:15
huh? lol that comment is totally out of place

Why does your link show Company of Heroes? Wouldn't Crysis maybe peform better on DX 10 since its built for DX 10 to begin with?
Azmodan - 01 November 2007 - 15:39
There's also World in Conflict and Lost Planet, all of them show significant improvement in DX9. There are also other reviews showing that games runs a hella lot faster in DX9 than DX10. If there's a native x64 version of those games, then by every common reasoning, a PC with x64 and DX9 would be a LOT faster than a x86 with DX10.

How do you figure?
d3d9 probably wasn't developed with 64bit in mind and probably isn't as well optimized for it.
d3d10, however, was developed with Vista, which was designed to be a big 64bit player from the getgo.

Crysis was built for DX9. DX10 didn't even exist when Crysis began development. The original demo movies that everyone thought were so amazing were DX9. The DX10 mode was added later.
Anyway, I'm sure the 50 people who use Vista x64, and have a quad core CPU, and a $500 graphics card will be happy about the improved performance at 1440x900. Especially when their LCD monitors are 1680x1050 at the minimum.
I would hope that Crysis runs better in 64-bit.
