1,400 Wii Consoles Sold In Ten Minutes On Amazon

It's the Wii console's second Christmas out and there a strong sense of déjà vu in reports that talk of internet-breaking sales as punters go mental for Nintendo's console. Amazon apparently sold 1,400 consoles in just ten minutes, when stock was renewed last week. A similar picture is painted at retailers across the country, as the widely sold-out Wii becomes harder to find with every passing day. The craze has predictably pushed up prices of the console - some are selling on eBay and Amazon (second hand) for over £300. Just as Reggie said would be the case, there just aren't enough consoles for everyone.

It's not that Nintendo isn't making many - on the contrary the company is said to be pumping out 1.8 million units a month. That's not enough to satisfy demand, but retailers are pretty happy about it. The chief executive of Woolworths, Trevor Bish-Jones, told the Telegraph: "There is a steady flow of Wiis into the country between now and Christmas. It will not be enough to meet all consumer demand but is sufficient for retailers to enjoy good levels of sales in the run-up to Christmas."

Indeed. I voted for it but I didn't win the $79 sale

There are still plenty of systems around... it's not like the situation is dire

Mars, apparently. There are never Wiis in stock anywhere I've been for more than a day, but there are stacks of 360s and PS3s everywhere.

oh yeah they're plentiful , if you want to pay £100-£300 over the RRP or want a games bundle with them. Amazon.fr and Amazon.DE have loads but wont ship to UK . And here was me thinking we were all part of the EU !!!!

Well down here in tassie theres absolutely zero of them. k-mart, target, nothing. We only just started getting them in harvey norman, and thats if you're lucky. EB have plenty of boxes, but not many systems, you gotta sit on a waiting list,

Naaa.. but you don't get the point. People buy a Wii for their bookshelves. People who buy Wiis don't use them, I know, I read it in so many threads, it has to be true. Nobody plays with a Wii, and it can't even play DVD movies. It's really the worst video game system ever and the amount of pixels visible on the face on an NBA player on XBox or PS3 will soon prove to be what people really want, deep deep inside.
