Coming on the heels of Nintendo of America's announcement of its best North American sales week ever -- with 350,000 Wiis and 653,000 Nintendo DSes sold -- a CNBC report states that Microsoft has announced it sold 310,000 Xbox 360 systems during the same period, allegedly outselling the PlayStation 3 2:1.

Microsoft also maintains that it has the highest software sales of all three consoles and expects that trend to continue through to the end of the year, with software sales for 360 as much as PS3 and Wii's combined.

Despite Microsoft's insistence that the 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 2:1 during the shopping week, SCEA spokesperson Kimberly Otzman told SeattlePI.com that "Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week." She did not counter with figures, however, saying that Sony prefers to wait for the NPD Group's official counts, which will be released on December 13.

Sony did, however, release some statistics about the performance of all of its platforms during Black Friday earlier this week, noting a marked increase in sales of the PS3 as well as the PS2 and PSP.

In related news, Microsoft announced that they were adding a third shift to their product returns dept. in preparation for the onslaught of defective Xbox 360s sold during the holiday season.

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist!

I don't know if the 360s are failing as much (I don't pay much attention to this stuff), but I thought it was funny

And yet the Wii had its second best weekend in it's life just this past black friday... they sold almost a million Wii's the that weekend world wide... PS3 and XBOX360 wernt even close... and if you looked at the lines waiting for a system the Wii was the only one people were lined up for... heck this morning the Nintendo World Store in NYC had a line of over 1,000 people waiting for a wii

The only place that happened was in Japan. And it only happened for 2 weeks. The most recent week, Wii was back on top. Everywhere else (important), the PS3 is on the bottom.

So wait, they are reporting that they sold 310,000 Xboxes that week, yet the Wii sold 350,000 in the same week. So who cares if the Xbox is second during Black Friday week?

No one really. Both Sony and Microsoft have royally bumbled through this console release. Still love my 360 though.

I'm not even a (big) gamer but I have to say I disagree. It depends on the type of game, an RTS, (most) FPSs for sure are better on PCs. But there are many games that I would rather play on a console, with a controller instead of a keyboard.

Let me explain: It is my feeling (and I'm not alone in this) that games that are made for the PC are made for a more mature audience than games that are made for the consoles are. I realize that that is a generalization, but I'm just saying how I feel.
Now, why do I feel that way? In a word: Experience. I've been hardcore into consoles and I've been hardcore into PC gaming. There used to be a huge difference between PC and Console gaming but more and more that line is bluring and it seems to me that PC gaming these days is pandering more and more to the lowest common denominator.

Look, there's a reason nobody ever successfully ported a Mario-type game over to the PC: PC gamers were just too mature to play that kind of game on the PC. Don't tell me the difference is "game controllers VS Kbrd + Mouse". There are game controllers available for the PC, but hardly anyone ever buys them. It's not the hardware, it's the user; Anyone who is serious enough about gaming to drop the kind of money needed to build a serious gaming PC didn't do that so he can play console games on it. He wants something more. Something better. Something that's not a console game.

Specifically, he wants gaming where you actually have to THINK about what you're doing and why you're doing it. Games like Fallout where... do I really need to tell you why Fallout could never have been made for consoles? Ok, obscure example. Try Civilization. Any of the four games in that series. (Five if you count SMAC/SMAX) Up untill now, nobody would have dreamed of making that kind of game for the console world. (OK, granted Civ II was ported to the PS1 but that was it). It's only now that the beloved Civ has been whored out to the unwashed masses of console kiddies (The next Civ game will be console-only from what we know so far. Say it ain't so, Sid!

I used to think the same thing, but now PC gaming is just a powerful engine without a chassis.
