There’s no denying that Crysis is an absolute beauty; nothing comes close to matching the gorgeous visuals that CryEngine 2 – the technology behind Crysis – can produce. It’s exciting to know, then, that CryEngine 2 is going to be shown at this year’s GDC running on multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

There won’t be a public showing of this, but it’s exciting news nevertheless. While it likely isn’t going to be a straight port of the engine – it is, after all, built to last well into the future on hardware that you can’t find now – it would be great to see how hard it could push the power of the 360 and PS3.

Maybe a console version of Crysis isn’t so far fetched after all.

it'll be something along the lines of farcry instincts IMO, a simplified version of crysis.

i'd be happy with that, as long as it still looks great, has vehicles and a good story.

The vehicles were my least favorite part of Crysis - they were so realistic that if anyone shot me from the front, the windshield would shatter, making it virtually impossible to drive, and if I hit anything larger than a small bush, the damage would go up, and I would be forced to exit. They were such a pain I only used them in 2-3 areas of the game.

Realism is horrible isn't it? That's like saying I got shot in the stomach I should be able to keep running!.... personally I think its great that games are getting harder and more like real life... makes you have to think about what you are doing and not just running around shooting like a wild man

Really? I played on hard (Koreans speak Korean), and I could play with the shattered windshield. And if its really sharrered, get out, punch the glass, and it'll break completely, and you can keep going.

too bad its not going to look that great on the consoles. does the 360 even meet the recommended specs for chrysis? i know its apples and oranges, but still interested to know.

I think the ps3 and the 360 would both look great with an optimized crysis port. I mean of the games are pretty flashy on both these systems as is. I know it won be totally the same as the pc version but still would look good imo

Yeah probably but there's nothing that say they will port Crysis to others consoles. What they say is they are bringing the engine on which Crysis run to others consoles. They want themselves to be able to use the engine on others consoles and others games developers to license the engine.

For all of you saying the xbox360/ps3 can't produce the visual of Crysis your right and your wrong. CryEngine currently is optimized towards PC's and the hardware in them. CryEngine 2 is going to be optimized for that as well as the architectures of the PS3 and 360.

Optimization can lead to ENORMOUS jumps in performance when doing the same operations. This is why badly optimized code can be killer and lead to insane system requirements. Look at the recommended system requirements for Assasins Creed on a PC...they are insane and alot of it has to do with poor optimization.

A fun example I like to use is Simcity 3000 deluxe. Do yourself a favor and read the recommended specs which are pretty high for its release day. Then run the game on todays hardware...guess what...you will see next to nothing in a performance increase even though your machine chews through games 20,000 times more complex.

A well optimized engine can achieve amazing results especially when tuned to specific hardware. I promise you they will be able to bring just as detailed graphics to the ps3/360 engine

The 360 is already pushed near its limits. The PS3 not even half way. I would expect to see a console version of crysis, now is the time to get it out since it is a trilogy. Its only a matter of weeks/months till crytek will be announcing crysis 2.

Haven't they already? I recall some talk about how Crytek are aiming to make Crysis 2 even better looking then Crysis...or did I imagine it?

Looks like Crysis is coming to PS3 after all.
