If you're a child of the 80's or even a child of the 90's and you love video games, then there's surely no doubt that you would believe that the Nintendo Entertainment System defines the word "classic". So many great games that system has given us. There were classic games that launched popular series' like "Super Mario Bros." and "Legend of Zelda". There were also some games that were really short and simple but still awesome and fun to play like "Duck Tales" and "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom". There were even some arcade classics like "Balloon Fight" and "Pac Man".

Believe it or not, there were actually some games on this system that were extremely hard. The following is a list of the Top 10 games on the NES that I believe are the hardest games in the NES library. Now, before you say stuff like "I liked that game! Why are you distin it?", please keep in mind that I'm not saying that these are all bad games, and I'm not necessarily saying that they're all good games; I'm just saying that they're really really hard. Okay, enough with the yakkin', and let's begin the countdown.

I would add A Boy And His Blob and Monster Party to that list--TMNT was definitely one of the hardest games I played back in the day (same with the later levels of Battletoads).

Thats because you were outpowered from level 1..

I would agree with the TMNT comment, I found it one of the hardest games I ever played on the NES. The original Zelda was tough in some of the later dungeons, but Zelda II was a nightmare compared to the first!
I always thought Castlevania was really hard, from level 3 onwards it just got nasty.
The only other hardest moment in NES history is that huge run-jump that you needed to get just perfectly in level 8-3 (I think or maybe it was 8-1). I always hated that bit!

QTF

That is my all time favorite game.

Golgo 13 and The Maifat Conspiracy. I beat both of those and they are definately hard. I still remember the sniper board on Maifat where you actually have to calculate the direction of the wind and the MPH before you shoot. Also Mission Impossible should of made the list as well.

Meh, I thought Top Gun was easy.
I figured Ghosts n Goblins would've been #1 on that list. I wasn't disappointed to see that it was in at least the top 3. Man, I can't tell you how ****ed that game used to make me! Of that list, those are the only ones that I played, so I cannot comment on the rest.

Golgo 13 was an awesome game! I beat it, but not without spending ALOT of time playing it.

Didn't play a lot of those. I'm surprised that Contra wasn't on the list. G&G was a beast and the SNES version wasn't a cakewalk either. And yeah, everyone knows TMNT was a bltch and a half.
#5.1 +Hills420 on 02 Feb 2008 - 07:56
Contra was very easy, just use the code for 99 lives.
#5.2 NeoTrunks on 03 Feb 2008 - 11:10
I've beaten the arcade version of Contra with 1 quarter .

SMB's 8-3 is the hardest level in the game for me, but at least the levels are able to be memorized enough to know what to avoid and when to be cautious when you can't avoid anything.

TMNT obviously has my vote as well. The first swimming level usually took out two of my turtles. Oh, and then I could never get past the point where Splinter had been captured by the Shredder. I was roaming around town, trying to find my way, and even with the help of several walkthroughs a few years later, I just couldn't figure out where to go.

The good old days were wonderful. I wish games were still made to be challenging like this. Of course, there is no excuse for The Karate Kid... That game was just stupid. I prefer Kung Fu (Bruce Lee's "Game of Death" turned into game?) over almost any other Martial Arts-oriented game, but that wasn't exactly super hard. It was just annoying at times.

I agree with the Angry Nintendo Nerd about Friday the 13th - the game was horrible.

TMNT!.. I played it and ... it's impossible to beat.
#7 +Shadrack on 01 Feb 2008 - 17:29
Wow. I've actually beaten all of those games except for Top Gun and Silver Surfer. Both of which I have never played.

My own list (not 10 games):

1. Ikari Warriors
2. TNMT
3. Boy and his Blob (w/o a walk through).
4. Double Dragon
5. Battletoads

A lot of those games were so freaken hard because the game play was god aweful.
#8 gameboy1977 on 01 Feb 2008 - 17:45
I remembered I play one hardest game called Milon's Secret Castle. I used Genie Code to beat that game. LOL! Does anyone beat that game?
#9 Merv Burger on 01 Feb 2008 - 18:29
No Bucky O'Hare?

This list is a joke.

Also, Megaman isn't a hard game.
#10 Boxster17 on 01 Feb 2008 - 18:33
Well I'm not surprised Ghost n Goblins is up there, used to get so frustrated with that game at times. Don't really remember how hard TMNT was, but I remember it taking me a while to get through it.
#11 +warwagon on 01 Feb 2008 - 19:08
just gotta go youtube angry nintendo nerd and listen to what he has to say about a few of those games

That Silver Surfer game sounds ridiculous.
#13 kak on 01 Feb 2008 - 21:11
Ninja Gaiden didn't make the Top 10? Apparently they never played it.
#14 Doli on 01 Feb 2008 - 21:29
Top Gun ... haha man it took me years to land (no really years, I found the ole NES in storage and played Top Gun and i finally made it. I also was able to refuel in air).

Double Dragon 3 ahhh one life that was a pain

Mega Man should have been easy since the first Mega Man game I played was the second title. That game served my A** a slice of humble pie.

Gamers today have it easy... too easy. Metroid for NES > the remake for the GBA because they killed the difficulty in the remake.

This review is funny but I don't agree with the reviewer..

Not to be an ass, but I beat half those games (including Battletoads). I remember that Mike Tyson was very hard in his Punch Out game, Master Blaster was hard as hell too. Ninja Gaiden was impossible.
#17 eilegz on 03 Feb 2008 - 03:22
ninja gaiden and punch out were very hard too
#18 +Skwerl on 04 Feb 2008 - 21:26
I will agree with Megaman and Ghouls and Ghosts, but I too thought Castlevania should have been on the list. I recall "Yo Noid" being fairly easy, and I'm surprised to see that someone else has actually played that game. Someone above mentioned Blaster Master- I never did get past level six.
#19 Meacham on 06 Feb 2008 - 20:19
Yeah why isn't Castlevania in the list...?
#20 Imnotrichey on 08 Feb 2008 - 22:55
I never have beaten TNMT or Mega Man. I also never beat the first Zelda. I could never figure out which dungeon to go to. I'd find the first one easily.. Then I find the 6th one...wtf?!
