A man who killed his 17-month-old daughter in a rage over a broken Xbox has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison. Tyrone Spellman, 27, of Philadelphia, killed Alayiah Turman with at least five blows to the head, prosecutors said. The force of the blows cracked the toddler's skull several times.

"I've been doing this 13 years, and this is one of the few cases that's ever left me at a loss for words," Assistant District Attorney James Berardinelli said. "There's never a good reason for this (murder), but this is just the pettiest of reasons.

Yes, but was it a 360. This peice of crucial information could halve his sentence.

Bah, those breaks by themselves, nothing to help him.

The worst part is that it was his own daughter. How does a person reach a state that not being able to play a console game produces the desire to bash ones own child's head in?

Trash.

I was hoping for a life sentence/death penalty. But, when does the justice system ever work?

Tyrone Spellman, 25, will stand trial for the September murder of Alayiah Turman whom he beat to death after the 17-month old girl knocked over his Xbox 360. While playing a game of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Alayiah pulled the console down with the attached controller. Spellman then "popped her in the face and then tossed her in the chair", killing her.

The original Xbox was designed specifically to NOT do this when the controllers were pulled. Surely they wouldn't have removed the anti-pull mechanism on the original controllers?

I didn't even need a picture, or a name, to determine the race of the aggressor.

I've been living in this city long enough to know to put 1, 1 and 1 together...Philadelphia, murder, child...

sigh...add another one to the Philadelphia murder count. We're #1! We're #1!

Disgusting, I hope he's ashamed of himself. Im willing to bet hes more regretting his actions because now he can never play an xbox again.

lol I'm sure MS will have something 20 years from now.

2 decades. That's all?
#11 GEIST on 14 Mar 2008 - 16:24
That's just messed up beyond any words to describe it. That monster doesn't even deserve to be imprisoned.
But we can rest assured his fellow inmates will give him proper treatment child murderers are the absolutely lowest ranking scum in there.
#12 Gabe3 on 14 Mar 2008 - 16:52
Which one is lowest? child lovers or this?

#15 Skyfrog on 14 Mar 2008 - 19:13
He only gets two decades for that? Try downloading a movie though, they'll want to put you away for life.
#16 TwistEdFish on 14 Mar 2008 - 19:20
I'm speechless as to what he did, but I can pretty much guarantee you he will not get out of prison.
#17 Tyrion Lannister on 14 Mar 2008 - 20:00
Piece of trash... killing his daughter. But for an old ass Xbox? Man... poor motherf'er can't afford to drop 40$ on a new one? All the original Xbox titles sucked dick anyhow.
#18 TwistEdFish on 14 Mar 2008 - 20:04
Let see here, Game developers get sued when kids take guns to school and start shooting the place up.
Heavy metal music is accredited with the same basic behavior. I smell a law suit against Microsoft coming, and why shouldn't it if the mere thought of not being able to play the X-box sends someone into a rage that will push them to kill anyone much less a child then YES Microsoft should have to pay for altering someones mind set to that extent.

ROFLOL jk but you know its going to happen that way sooner or later!!
#19 Kayden on 14 Mar 2008 - 20:23
I have 3 kids and my old oldest who was about that same age at the time of my incident got honey in my XBox through the dvd drive of course I was upset but I love my kids too much to hurt them in that way obviously this sick **** didn't care about any one but himself and all I wish is that he got death row for being that self centered.
#20 TwistEdFish on 14 Mar 2008 - 20:29
Thank goodness when my 3 year old stuck his grilled cheese in my old VCR I kept my kewl.
WAIT no I didn't!!!

I laughed so damn hard I fell over and hit my funny bone on the coffee table and screamed like a small child.

This is called: "I want to leave my girlfriend and don't want to pay child support so what can I blame this act of violence on, oh yeah my xbox has been acting up"

Dmbass, this guy should get life without parole like every other idiot murderer. If he murdered the mother of the child he would have gotten this sentence, giving him a lesser sentence for killing a smaller human being is ridiculous.

IMO + 2 Cents

True, although they never, well wouldn't say never, but they usually don't give the guy death row unless he has committed multiple murders or was on a killing spree at say the mall or something... Although, I agree 100% with your fry his arse comment!

Thats a matter of opinion not fact. Killing is killing in my eyes, such a thing as death or similar punishment should be expected by anyone who thinks of murdering someone. As for the people that claim insanity well put them to sleep. Some people think death is bad but if you cannot abide by the rules and take anyones life away from them then death is the only thing I see fit.

This isn't really as uncommon as one would like to be. They are always killing there kids over gameboys, DS's Wii's, and Xbox's.

#24 Angel Blue01 on 15 Mar 2008 - 12:50
This guy should go to jail for the rest of his life, sentenced to during the day watch reruns of 70s shows on a lousy TV (I'd donate it).

Bad things happen to bad people. Perhaps a fellow prisoner will end his life. If this man was in a life or death situation and I had the opportunity to save him, I'd pass.

Thats the problem I have. Say he did do drugs but it was his decision to use them. Responsibility is fading away fast these days, just be a man or woman and take responsibility. Also thinking helps. If only people would think first instead of doing first and then think. I wish the world was a better place all the time. It hurts to see stuff like this.

Somebody should remind him every once in a while that he killed hes daugter coz of an xbox.. a worthless piece of junk was more precious to him then his own flesh and blood... how sad is that ?!

Let him rot in jail.. hope he gets what he deserves.

---
And yes.. some weirda** thing p***es me off too... internet "pirates" get the same or worse punishment then cold blooded killers ?? Justice isn't just blind... seems to me it has passed away long time ago.

PS :!: Seems to me that it doesn't matter wether you have a gun or an xbox over there in US. Both can be extremely lethal when used by creatures with no brain.

Console manufacturers should embed Anger Management programs into their consoles.

#37 Meacham on 22 Mar 2008 - 16:46
Like the DA said I'm lost for words.

"You can replace plastic and components with new ones, you cannot replace a life." 20 years is not enough, It should have been at least 40 years without the possibility of parole.

Really sad news and something I wish I never read now.

I just thought of something, put him in a cell with an XBOX 360 Gaming Pad to remind him of why he's in prison.

Edited by me
