Looks like id Software is ready to go and has announced Doom4, and apparently has started production. They are now hiring. Not much more is known yet about Doom 4, however.

you guys need a new game title.... FPS' are all good and well but the go into the room, and kill all the bad guys, go into the next room and kill all the bad guys is old and stale. should have learned that with doom 3. play through HL2 again to get a feel for where starting to become out dated and make something better.

That is kind of the core of FPS games, though, isn't it? There are only about a million FPS games out there, so the gameplay seems old and overdone no matter where you look IMO.

I enjoyed DOOM 3. It had a really cool atmosphere and some awesome demons to kill. Sure it didn't seem as cool after Half Life 2. So maybe I have a good opinion of it because I beat it before I played Half Life 2 .

Hope Doom 4 is good. It will be interesting to hear what new things they can do with their engine.

Wasn't this announces ages ago at some Mac conference?

No, the game they announced at the mac show was called Rage and had outdoor and racing elements in the game.

doom4 is excessive. they cant possibly expand on the story after doom3

ID was an awesome company in the mid to late 90s
but its time has passed now

there not going to last much longer if they keep making sequels to the only 2 major game franchises they have produced
time for something fresh, perhaps RAGE will change this

They still enjoyed moderate success early this decade with the join venture with activision creating Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

doom 3 was actually a remake of doom 1, so there is still doom 2. I'm sure it could be expanded in many ways, (cyberdemon anyone?). Also I think they will learn from the mistakes in doom 3 (overly dark etc...)

Yeah, that was much better. Coincidentally, take a look at this, it would make the perfect third episode:

Ohhhhhhhhhh how I love Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I can play through that game with my eyes shut but man it's fun. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was great too. A shame Quake Wars wasn't all that great.

Wait.. where am I going with this? Guess nowhere other than to say that.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh RTCW ftfw.
