Id Software's confirmed what we've known since last August -- that Doom 4's in the offing. Today's emailed news-bomb courtesy Karina Tang confirms Doom 4 finally has a dedicated team, and hey, they're hiring! (I think you have to drag race Carmack for the benefits package.)

"DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "It’s critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."

While nothing's announced yet, expect versions for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and probably the Mac.

This could be awesome. I'm imagining a remake of Doom 2 (the demons have invaded Earth and what not). I'll keep my hopes up for this one.

But please for the love of God, put flashlights on the guns or give us a shoulder/helmet mounted light!

I totally agree. I really want to be able to see what in the world I am doing this time.

lets just hope if they use a new graphics engine like DooM3 did in it's time..... lets hope it's got top of the line graphics that get released early this time cause by the time doom3 came out in 2004 it's graphics where still higher end but alot of other games closed the gap quite a bit by that time... cause when i played the alpha demo of doom3 back in Nov 2002 it was MAJOR graphics boost to all games out at the time... but like i said, once it came out in 2004 alot of other games closed the graphics leap that doom3 had quite a bit and it was not nearly as impressive in the graphics dept.

+1 to the 'flashlights on guns' thing ... ill bet that just did that (put flashlight separate from weapon) to 'try' to boost the suspense. lol

Sounds ok, but how about something new and fun? We've done Doom over and over since the original came out...

I totally agree on the flashlight on the gun idea. I really want to be able to see what in the world I am doing this time.

(hopefully this post will go through, because my previous one didn't)

Maybe they needed to not put in that tickrate thing in Quake 2 to be honest. Sorry ID but I didn't really jive with that deliberate lag you tried out there

Dunno if I'll ever have the hardware for a Doom 4 myself. We shall see!!! Make it like Quakeworld and Doom 2 modem games again with some funky OpenGL and I'll be happy.

Wait a second --- ; are we still using Open G L ID Software ? :?
